Decided to hit another beach this time instead the usual dockweiler/will rogers. So I Hit up Leo Carrillo from 7-11:15. On arrival the water was very clear and there was little to no weeds/kelp. Started with the LC for a dink perch then I decided to hop on to some rocks. No luck on the rocks with the swimbait. Plus I was getting a little freaked out with the waves so close to me on the rocks. Went back down to the sand with the kroc to catch one more dink perch. Around 9ish the seaweed/kelp rolled in. Saw a few corbins cruising through the shallows in groups of 2-4. Need to keep looking for a new AO  Does leo carrillo always have this much kelp/seaweed?

Kelp is the devil. I don't do a whole lot of fishing in that area but there seems to be some nice spots to try out just off the highway. Nice job beating the skunk.

Nice report, Leo Carrillo is beautiful beach and a fun place to fish and explore. I fished the HG5 event there and experienced the same salad fest you did. I was throwing the LC the whole time trying to land a fish and score a S.W.A.T. edition LC. It was nothing but sea weed harvesting with every cast. I didn't bring my Krocs though, that extra weight would help you drop one in at the kelp line. Good luck on finding you salad free AO.

Yes, it was a salad fest at many AO's this weekend...The important thing is that you got out there, beat the skunk and was able to enjoy the beautiful scenery. I have to admit that Leo Carillo is not the fishiest place in SoCal, but it looks so damned promising with all of the kelp beds and structure! I would not give up on this AO.
