After yesterdays' festivities at the AO with Erik and myself, I just had to do it again today. Erik couldn't make today (prior scheduled event) so I did it alone. If conditions were great yesterday (they were), they were even better today:

At the AO at sunrise, High tide, tiny waves (1+), 73 degrees at sunrise, slight offshore wind (Santa Ana), crystal clear water, no bait
action noticeable

It was a pure LC session - MS Anchovy and Metallic Sardine. My first cast brought a immediate hookup. I had a feeling it was going to be a fun time. I wasn't at all disappointed.

Once the sun was out, I could see into the water like looking through a glass. I was in for a real treat because I got to watch the stalk and the attack of the fish on the LC. What was interesting was that I didn't see more than one fish stalk the LC at a time. Only a single fish would come from seemingly nowhere and trail the LC for a couple seconds and then BAM. It would smash into it often engulfing the thing. Other times a fish would just launch a straight attack, like a fish missile, for the LC. No stalking just nailing.

The fish seemed to prefer the slow steady retrieve. Pausing for a moment here and there didn't seem to make a difference in garnering strikes.

I landed 19 fish. Only One I didn't measure nor photograph because it was only about 10". The other 18 I measured and snapped mugshots of. I started out the day taping and picture taking so I kinda felt I should the whole outing. I guess I wanted to document how amazing the fishing (for me at least) was. Next time I'm only going to measure and snap the biggest ones so I can have more "line time". As you will see the fish were pretty good size. Some over 15 and one close to 17" - a real brute.

So I won't post every picture of my fishing sessions ever again. I just thought this once it might be cool to see what is going on right now in the PIG Pen. --all fish released after posing --

I wish I could go again tomorrow but now it's time for sermon prep and teaching the rest of this week (I am covering for the senior pastor while he's away in Africa).

Hi ya anchor3n1,

A very nice pen of pigs that you've gathered there Sir!

I really appreciate your observance and the reporting on the habits of the fish strikes during your lure retrievals!
I've never gotten to see the approaching fish's stalking techniques of my lure just before the strike because I'm never very close to my lure or that the water has been a bit too murky to actually see it occur!

I've always wondered if pausing the lure on the retrieval really ever made a difference in the strike. And now I know .... :Thumbs Up :thanx!

Thanx for the fish report with pic's!

SP Dan <")><

PS ... I will probably continue to pause my lure now and again .... just to break up the monotony of hours :Rolls Eyes: of fan casting.

Nick,

You are dangerously close to a California State record with that near 17 incher!!! Great job out there! How is it that you guys seem to be hitting the sand EVERY day??? So jealous right now!

"I am going fishing" Simon Peter said. John 21:3 (except Peter and the rest of the biblical S.W.A.T. crew got skunked that night!)

Those are some slabs for sure! That near 17inch model is a pig. Enjoy the wide open bite on the slabs while it lasts.

WOW... kinda wished I could've gone now. But taking the wife to a taping of The Voice was planned for several weeks and it made her day... which in turn makes mine. I will catch up with you on the sand soon.
