Was at Lake Skinner today and saw in the window that they will not be stocking trout this season. That is unfortunate. I was looking forward to fishing for trout there this winter with my 10 year old son.

Guess I will have to go elsewhere.

Was there any explanation as to why they aren't stocking Trout?

I asked the lady at the gate, she said they were not planting rainbow trout, but a different kind will be stocked. I don't know how reliable this info is, but that is what she said.

Different kind of trout? But they will be stocking some kind of trout? Would be a shame if they didn't, I know they use part of everyone's fishing permit fees for fish stocking.

They are worried when skinner overflows it will dump trout into Santa margarita river. Really, that's the reason.

Yup, I saw that article. Funny thing is, Skinner has never overflowed, not even during the '93 torrential rainstorms. And of course NOW there will have to be YEARS of perpetual and duplicate studies paid for by the taxpayers to study what might or might not ever occur instead of just stocking Brownies right away. Gotta love that guberment job security stuff eh?
