Another FNN member recently reached out for a fishing buddy in the Ventura County area... I was one who answered that call. We met up on Monday morning at 5th Street in Ventura. We walked to his fishing spot and started fishing. I threw an LC for about 90 minutes and he was going for perch. The salad was thick and the waves were rough.. I had no hits while Nick was pulling in some monster perch! I switched over to my other rig that was set up for perch and finally hooked onto a GIANT skunkbuster as well. We fished for about 4 hours. Conditions sucked and I was reassured that this was very odd fishing for his spot. Normally much better. I could care less. I got to wet a line and meet up with a great guy with whom I look forward to fishing with again soon.

I used to fish fifth street all of the time until the poaching crew with all of their coolers started showing up...you know the guys I'm talking about. I used to get so angry when they were all keeping ten (yeah right) pregnant perch during spawnig season so I regretfully keep away from that spot now. I go fishing to relax.....not to get angry.
That being said.....
When the water gets angry and stained there try using a chartreuse 1/4oz big hammer head with a 3" morf kalens grub. The larger hook/grub rig keeps the rats off and the chartreuse head is easily seen and chased down by the big girls...so much fun on UL gear.

Well there you go! Made a new friend, got out to fish and even caught a few! What more can one ask for in life?

Those swells look a little ominous! Be careful out there guys!

Thanks for the report and keep them coming! I really enjoy reading about the surf fishing experiences of others, skunk and all!
