As seen in general discussion, my Female Anuroctonus gave birth. I have way too many of the babies, so I must sell them.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/smokehound/IMG_20130803_152215.png
Mature female- $19.00
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/smokehound/IMG_20130804_221824.png
5th instar female- $14.00
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/smokehound/IMG_20131006_034455.png
2nd instar babies- $8.00 --Purchase 5 or more for a %50 price reduction.

Easy to care for, all scorpions come with their own enclosure, complete with substrate mix I've made myself for superior burrow stability:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/smokehound/IMG_20131006_034719.png

Give them access to water at all times, a large bottle cap is sufficient for adults, for babies, use small water bottle caps, pressed into substrate, so the rim is level with the substrate, and place several large pebbles inside it, so the babies dont get trapped, and drown. The babies will accept pinhead crickets.

A mix of sand and clay is fine for substrate. Do not attempt to house them together, they will kill each other.

Aphonopelma eutylenum "Blonde" morph

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/smokehound/IMG_20130830_172554.png

2" Body length unsexed: SOLD OUT
2" Female: SOLD OUT
2" Male: $25.00[/b]
1" unsexed juveniles: SOLD OUT

These tarantulas get bigger than the standard eutylenum. They love Blaptica dubia roaches, which are available at many pet and reptile stores.

Keep them on the dry side, with a water dish kept full at all times, and at least 4" of substrate to burrow into. Fairly active tarantulas, provide them with a hiding place.

California Trap-door spider

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/smokehound/IMG_20131003_171049.png

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/smokehound/IMG_20130613_214940.png

Mature females: $30.00 Keep in a tall open container. Coco fiber is fine, for substrate. Likes discoid roaches. Do not handle, they are very defensive, and when they bite, they dont let go. If a bite occurs, use a small paintbrush to gently pry the fangs out. When they are hungry, they'll prop their door open a little. Dont mess with their doors, or try to "beautify" them, this will cause them to build another door underneath.

Phidippus Audax "Bold Jumper"

Captive-bred Sub-adults unsexed: $6.00

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/smokehound/IMG_20130510_213445.jpg

Powerful killing machines, will tackle prey much larger than themselves. These don't need substrate, and they can get quite large, up to a 23mm body length. Their hunting strategy is much like a puma's; they stalk and creep low, then jump and deliver a killing bite to the back of the neck. For water, spray the side of the container once a day. Feed one large cricket or roach once a week. Overfeeding shortens their lifespan. lifespan: 2 years, 3 years-rarely. Beautiful metallic green/blue jaws, with strong contrasting colors. Intelligent. They display extreme curiosity towards new objects placed in their enclosure.

They appreciate a hiding spot, like a rolled-up dried rose leaf. Some are friendly, and like being held, others are skittish. They do not bite. Comes with enclosure.

One of my old males pictured below.. he was finger-trained. (you read that right.)

Once the males hit maturity, they die soon. Females, however live for decades.

I use a samsung Admire phone for macro photography. Pretty powerful camera, lightyears ahead of my new camera, which sucks at taking macros.

Cya TUNAVIC Thank you.

BTW, if any of you guys in orange county that live around open scrubland see the spider pictured below, please PM me, I'm searching for this species, looks like a Hogna species, but is actually Schizocosa maxima, a giant wolf spider. If you're scared of them, and dont want to catch them for me, I am more than willing to catch 'em for ya. Just PM me!

I am attempting to collect data on them to better understand this species, as well as breed them into the hobby. and there is no useful literature you can find by google searching. They get huge.., 3-4" legspan.

Last I need is a aphonopelma eutylenum crapping all over the kitchen. They're actually very clean. Before feeding on their prey, they spin a sheet of webbing, and wrap their food up so it doesnt spill all over the place. When they defecate, it's an expulsion of liquid, basically just excess uric acid, like bird poop. They take weeks to digest a meal fully.

Hey smokehound,
I live off of pch and warner directly in back of the bolsa chica wetlands. I usually run these wetlands 3-4 times a week and have been amazed to see/observe what I think is the type of spider you are looking for (Schizocosa maxima). The first time I ran into one of these was completley by mistake, while tying the laces to one of my shoes. I'm definitely familiar with the common wolf spider and was amazed to see just how huge this creautre was. I didn't attempt to catch it and as I came closer it seemed to notice me but wasn't bothered by my interest. I'm sure you can head out there and find one of them, if I happen to encounter this spider again I will take a picture and pm you.
happy hunting!

Any Brazilian wandering spiders for sale (banana spider)?Unfortunately, I don't. I may get my hands on a female and male in the future. I generally don't keep highly venomous species, the only medically significant species I have are Brown and Black widows. Speaking of which...

Widow spiders are available. WARNING, ALL MEMBERS OF THE GENUS LATRODECTUS ARE MEDICALLY SIGNIFICANT, CAUSING PAINFUL ENVENOMATIONS. THE VENOM, WHILE NOT FATAL, STILL CAUSES INTENSE PAIN DUE TO SYSTEMIC EFFECTS CAUSING PAINFUL MUSCLE CRAMPING, AND FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS. TREAT THEM WITH RESPECT, AND CAUTION. MINORS MAY NOT PURCHASE THESE, NO EXCEPTIONS!

Latrodectus hesperus (Western black widow)

http://static.ddmcdn.com/gif/blogs/6a00d8341bf67c53ef01538fb74f61970b-800wi.jpg

Now becoming rare in urban regions, being extirpated by the introduced Brown Widow.

Mature females: $10.00 each, (limited supply- two specimens available, both mature females.)

Latrodectus geometricus (Brown Widow)
http://cisr.ucr.edu/images/brown_widow_spider_large.jpg

Mature females: $4.00 each Purchase more than 4 brown widows, and the price is reduced to $2.00 ea.

NEW Jerusalem crickets now available! $7.00 each (juv/adults)

http://pestcontrolcenter.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Jerusalemcricket.jpg

Giant subterranean omnivorous predators, these are the so-called "Potatobugs" that freak gardeners out. Caution, these insects are confrontational, and capable of delivering a painful bite!
Feed them live mealworms, and carrots. They will eat almost anything, but love live prey the most. Keep them in a container filled with lightly damp coco fiber, tamped down firmly.

NEW Desert stink beetles! (Eleodes acuticaudus, unsexed adults) 1"+ $7.00 each

http://www.roachcrossing.com/eacuti%20(Small).jpg

Large shiny black beetles that exude a noxious smelling chemical in defense. They live extremely long lives, up to 30 years. They will eat anything given to them, especially meat and fresh tender greens.

Schizocosa mccooki $6.00 ea

Mature female:

Extremely fast wolf spiders, medium-sized. 2-1/2" legspan, 20-23mm bodylength. Requires substrate.

All female tarantulas are sold out.. 2" males are still available. they are not mature yet- they will be released into their native habitat upon maturity if not sold.

Makes me wonder whether the Brown Recluse will ever establish a population in California.

-bextremely unlikely. Loxoceles reclusa requires a warm humid climate, only found in the southeast gulf states.

The only recluse species found in california is Loxoceles deserta, which is the only likely species, however because of the improper climate they also fail to establish, as well.

aberrant individuals, like the chilean recluse, which hitch-hike in produce, DO pop up from now and then, however because of the improper climate, they never establish.

Add to that, the pholcid spiders, which thrive indoors, and specialize in eating spiders that wander, and the possibility diminishes even more. Many spiders look extremely similar to loxoceles, and many "recluse" bites end up actually being MRSA infection, which resembles a spider bite, and can become necrotic. But when a chilean recluse shows up in produce from chile, expect the corporate media to jump at the chance to fear-monger.

Photobucket sucks. gotta re-host most of my images, now..

Voracious killing machines. DO NOT OVERFEED. These have a short lifespan, However, you can put them into diapause, which is the arthropod-equivalent of hibernation.

They require a sand/silt/clay mixture (50%sand, 40%silt, and 10% clay is perfect.) Mix it up thoroughly with water (not too much, just enough to make the substrate slightly-moist), then tamp it down firmly. These can climb smooth surfaces, thanks to the suctoral organs at the tip of their pedipalps. So dont keep them in an open container. They appreciate good ventilation. The containers they come with are complete with substrate. place a small bottlecap full of water in the container, so they can drink occasionally. Despite that, they seem to get most of their water from their food, and like dry conditions.

NEW! Paruroctonus silvestrii --$10.00

http://i.imgur.com/YltxKxC.jpg

Fast, agile scorpions that are very quick to sting. They will sometimes strike their prey so hard with their stings, that they'll fly across the container a few inches! These are very grumpy scorpions, and will not hesitate to sting, however they make excellent captives. They prefer sand, and a simple flat rock on the sand is all they need.
