late newport harbor report

9/17/13 decided to take my uncle skiff fishing newport harbor started off by picking up a nice scoop of chovies. Did a quick drift by bait receiver ended up catching 1 sandbss and bunch of lizard fish. Decided to make a move deeper in to the harbor by sailboat were last week we lost some big fish.. on the first drift by sailboat fishing quickly got good. First bait in the water was slammed by a 19inch white seabass next bait. Next bait in the water my uncles wasn't in the water 5min on same drift and he hooks something which pulls drag after 7 or 8min fight we end up netting a 27inch halibut. Went back up in to the sailboat to do the drift again and what do u know this time it was my turn line scream of my 15lb outfit and after a good fight I net my own 31inch halibut. Decided to try the same drift a 3rd time. What are the odds im thinking there could be anther one on the same spot this time it was a little longer into the drift. I was about to move and try another spot to drift when I get a hit this time wasn't the drag burner from the get go that was until I set the hook the the fight was on. Couple min later netted a 28.. yes 3 legal halibut in 3 drifts. would repeat the drifts in the same area for the rest of the day. Ended up catching 2 more legal halibuts which we let go one at 24inches and another at 22 and 3/4inches long. Plus we caught 2 barracuda at about 16inches long plus 7 or so spotted bay bass and about 6 sandbass 2 croakers .. very good day in harbor everything released except the 3 biggest halibut.. total count on the hali was 5 legals. Have pictures but new to this site cant upload..
