Hello there people, long time no post. I'm going to make this a short report and have my glorious pictures do the talking.

Today, rather yesterday, I embarked on my first ever Huntington Harbor trip. The quarry were Spotted Bay Bass and Sand Bass. I got onto the water at 0900 and fished until 1530. The crazy part about this harbor is the freakin' current. For whatever reason there was 4 different current all going off in their own directions. So basically, I was kicking in place for a solid 20-30 min before I was able to get near any docks. Anyways, all fish were taken on light tackle, and I was sporting 4-6lb mono and nothing heavier. Plastics was the name of the game today, but I did bag a sandie, the YFC, and Ray on mussel.

Total fish count: 3 Spotted Bay Bass, 9 Short Sand Bass, 1 Yellowfin Croaker, 1 Round Ray

Alrighty people, enjoy the pics.

On 4lb this YFC fought like a beast!

This little guy had such nice colors. I couldn't resist snapping a pic or two of him.

Senko Sandie! lol!

On board the IF2L float tube! My first solid spottie in months. This brute burned my 6lb Izorline. He taped out at 13".

The next Spotted victim. He was also 13". The poor guy suffer a wound on his left shoulder. I'm betting that a seal or a bird took a nab at it. He was very malnourished but released quickly!

Say Ahhh!!!

BAM! My PB! I seriously couldn't get any line on this guy and nearly sawed me off. He taped out at 14" and was also taken on 6lb Izorline.

Great pics, keep a eye on that moon phase and big tide swing = currents.
That first pic is awesome.

That's awesome! Great pics. Those spotties are very scrappy on UL tackle. What a fun time. I'll have to join you one day, but it sounds like I should bring my kayak anchor along.

Thanks DR. I really didn't consider the moon for the current. Full moon, no bueno.

Are you referring to the YFC or that colorful little Sandie? I think the Sand bass looks better lol.

Thank you sir! Scrappy? More like beasts! I was a amazed that I didn't get sawn off on the pilings.

Thanks! Those fish were finicky that day. If you didn't fish slow you weren't going to get bitten.

Thanks Don. It was insanely fun throughout the whole day! Tide, current, big fish, 100ft yachts zipping towards your direction, all of it was great!

Just wait til you hook into the 20+ inchers. 13 inchers are still very strong, but once they break the 15 inch mark, they put on alot of weight and those teeth... o_o

I have fished NPH once, but that was before I focused on the Spotties. Hopefully I'll be able to make another trip soon.

Thanks! That Spottie really made my day!

20"+? Those beasts actually exist? I can't even fathom the pure strength on a Spottie of that size. lol I know what you mean about the teeth. That 14" put two 2" cuts in my thumb. A 20" Spottie would probably tear off flesh. lol

Hutington is so fun for spotties. Try throwing Gulp sandworms those work for everything in the harbor from 3 lb spotties, barracuda, and we even caught a baby WSB!
