S.W.A.T. Team Competition update - as of 9/16/13
Team Fish Storm – 119 Points
Team I Like Big Buts and I Cannot Lie – 104 Points
For the past several weeks, we’ve been receiving intel that the White Sea Bass or Ghosts of the Surf have been making appearances in the Santa Monica Bay and Malibu areas. Several spear fishermen and divers told us that they saw thick schools of WSB in the surf line. JerryG hooked onto a couple but the hooks pulled, Mike (Lieutenant Bones) almost got spooled by one before the hook popped and snapped the line on another… At least we know that they’re in the surf, now the trick is finding AND landing them… Timing is everything and I usually have pretty good timing...
Saturday evening, as I was getting ready to go to our monthly poker tournament between family & friends I get a text from Mike (Lieutenant Bones). He wanted to know if I wanted to join him at the A.O. where he lost a big WSB last weekend. This brute took his line across a boiler rock and snapped him off. I hate it when that happens!
I have never fished this spot before so I really wanted to check it out. Plus, having Lieutenant Bones as a guide drastically improves your chance of success.
I told Mike whether or not I join him depends on how far I go in the tournament. If I get knocked out early, I will join him. If I go deep and play until the early morning hours, I probably won’t. :Tired: But deep down, something was telling me that I should be in the surf in the morning... glad I listened. :Big Grin:
So it’s around 2:30am and I’m heads-up with a familiar final table nemesis. Binh (Badbeat) had a massive chips lead on me.
I consider myself an optimist, but there’s no way in hell I’m going to do anything with 10% of the chips playing against, no doubt, the best player in our group. :Envious: I said to Binh… “You take it bro, time for me to go fishing…” This is Binh’s THIRD straight tournament that he won, WOW! :EyePop: It’s not because of a weak field. We have some excellent players in our group of Rounders. But Binh is an exceptional poker player. Congrats Brother Binh, it’s obvious that you will be the one representing our group at next year’s World Series of Poker. You should go pro bro, I will bankroll you, think about it!
I got home about 3:00am and put the 2nd place winnings, or “Shopping” money on the dining room table for the Iron Chef. This should keep her busy while I’m out fishing, lol
Gathered up my surf gear, took all three Pugs out for a short walk, made myself a green tea shake, punched the new A.O. coordinates that Mike gave me into the navigation system of the car and got on the road by 4:45am. I think I was a little too excited to fish a new spot that I left too early and drove too fast, lol Got there at 5:30 and waited until Mike showed up at 6:00 :Rolls Eyes:
Lieutenant Bones… my partner in crime, lol

We geared up and walked down to the sand. Mike was right, this spot looks so fishy! :Surprised: Clear water with some patches of floating kelp, but none of the small annoying stuff. A bit swelly but manageable. Boilers, deep troughs and bait fish, lots of bait fish! :Dancing Banana: My Spidey senses were tingling big time. We got into the big Barred Surf Perch and Yellow Fin Croaker bite right away. Lots and lots of nice BSP’s and YFC’s hitting the sand for a quick release. Hoping to run into something bigger and more sinister with each cast…

Mike says that I should be a Magician with all the Rabbits I manage to pull out of the hat, lol :Big Smile:
Thanks Mike, for showing me a new spot that you worked so hard to recon. Accessing that stretch of beach wasn't easy and I, for one, appreciate your efforts. :Thumbs Up:
Always enjoy our long and meaningful conversations and Sunday was no different. Thanks for sharing your life’s philosophy and experience with me and know that I will always be there no matter what life chooses to throw at you. Why? Because I know you would do it for me…

Always enjoy our long and meaningful conversations and Sunday was no different. Thanks for sharing your life’s philosophy and experience with me and know that I will always be there no matter what life chooses to throw at you. Why? Because I know you would do it for me…
