Prologue:
Where's Waldo, er...I mean...Dlmoo312???? I have not seen Daniel since he left for up north about a month ago. I knew that Daniel was itching to fish the SoCal salt, so...I took the opportunity to take off from work and fish before taking care of daddy duties and back to school stuff.
AO(s): California
Time: 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. to noon o'clock
Conditions: 1 to 2 ft swells @ a 1 or so foot low tide
Temp: Water temp was COLD :Cold Fishing: Pay attention to this fact...
Daniel got to my place at 4:45ish and we loaded up. Public service announcement...Friends don't let friends fish and drive....Carpool.
Arrived at the first AO and got ready.

This AO was extremely weedy the day before and I only managed one short that day. As PTN would put it, "time for redemption!" We started casting and to my surprise, hardly any salad! Daniel heads down further south of my hole so I continue to work the hole where I caught my induction fish. No takers for the first 45 minutes. I know, I know...no one's home...move on. Nope! I hooked on to my skunk buster. A baby SNGF. I think that I disturbed the nursery!

Immediately after, I hooked onto a short butt...no pic cause I took a little bit longer unhooking him and wanted to release as fast as I could. I meet up with Daniel and he has the look of despair. Let's keep going brother! I hook into an additional 2 shorts.

The salad started to come back in with the incoming high. We deduced that the water temp was about mid 60's and that maybe we should wait for the high tide and the water temp to get warmer. Time for breakfast.
After we gulped down a couple of Mickey D's Big Breakfasts, we headed to the next AO. Daniel started gearing up and I made fun of him for wearing his waders and jacket at 10am since it was feeling a bit warm. I would pay dearly for this soon thereafter. We decided to try for some of the crazy calico action near the kelp beds but no one was home. Oh, this is where I eat my taunt...the water was at least 60 degrees if not colder! I was freezing! Cold water + high tide + this AO = Perch time! Yes, it has come to this...
We start our trek south of the beach and I hook into a nice sized BSP immediately. The next cast, I farm another one. These guys averaged 13" with the smallest about 11" and the biggest about 14.25". Daniel begins his run into the perch. They were everywhere. They were aggressive. Between the two of us, we caught about 12 to 15 perch in about 45 minutes or so. We each got a 14" and called it a day.

(by the way, this was not the 14"er, just the only picture that I took of the perch 'cause we were busy slaying them)
No dinks for us!
Epliogue:
I hope that the same goes true for my fellow S.W.A.T. Brothers and Sisters as well as other FNNers when I say that I would gladly make the long trek, the sometimes treacherous trek, to fish together than go at it solo. Solo sessions bring me back to equillibrium but it is the fellowship that I enjoy the most! Thanks for making the drive down Daniel!
See everybody at HG5! :Big Grin:
