Hey fnn, so my girlfriend wants to do a week long fishing trip from new years to January 6th or February 1-6th. So I want to start planning it now. My question is what lake in California has a good bite at that time of year? The species doesn't matter and pretty much anywhere in California is fine. We will probably find a rental home by that lake and take the boat there. Any input would be great I don't usually fish that far out from la county so I'm not too familiar with the bite anywhere else in California at that time.

How far will you travel in Calif.?
I'm thinking for some quality trout fishing anytime of year, Baum Lake in nor cal, east of Redding near the town of Burney. Baum Lake is open to fish all year, but don't know what other lakes, creeks, and rivers are open that time of year.
You may have to do some research on that.
There are hotels in Burney, probably houses and cabins to rent too. You might want to check it out.

All I do, if you are coming up north, Delta for sure. you can stay in Stockton, Lodi, manteca or go towards the bay area. Sacramento River is open. If you can, hit clear lake for winter bass. Clear lake has a casino hotel so that would be cool for the girlfriend. check out westsidebass.com these dudes are delta and clear lake guys.
If you can't go up that high, then try Eastman and hensley in Chowchilla, Pine Flats, Bass Lake (house rentals) and any good spot along the foothills of the valley.
Central coast has San Antonio and Nacimiento in the Paso Robles area.
