Went out on Labor Day for another attempt at Blue Fin on the Dominator out of Point Loma. It was my first time fishing at one of the big three landings down in SD and it was all I expected it to be...except the fishing.

We left the dock at 9:15PM and went 85 miles south. The trollers were deployed at 6AM under a heavy overcasted sky and bumpby sea. We spotted our first paddy and it was yellowtails galore. I landed two rat yellowtails and lost a few due to people not following their lines. After that paddy we continue our search until the next paddy with the same story. And unfortunately that was also the story of the day...rats,,, rats...and more rats.

I came home with my limit of yellowtails and no blue under my belt. The count for our boat is 114 yellowtails for 26 anglers. The count for most of the overnighters were the same too...just yellowtails. The blues were elusive to us on this trip.

I still had a great time. The boat and crew were good. I would definitely go back out with them again.

The nice view on our way in.

Glad you put some Hamachi on the table. Darn shame about so many rats being caught, they say there is nothing to be concerned about for future fishing for Tails. I hope they are right, killing so many babies cannot be all good. I feel your pain on the Tuna, my four trips have resulted in a goose egg as well. Seems we need to book at least a 1.5 day trip with a 2.5 day far better.

How many pounds did the YT average ? Nice water in the pic, thnx for the post.
You are right Cory but there is a guy on multiple fishing websites that gives away hundreds if not thousands of pounds of fish every year and has donated hundreds of pounds of Tuna to homeless shelters ? Some folks don't get out that often and keeping a few rats is no big deal. Feed those homeless S O S not fresh tuna.

S.O.S. (Korean era - U.S. ARMY Style)

INGREDIENTS:
1 Lb 85% Lean Ground Beef.
3 Tbs Flour.
1 Cup Beef Broth
2 Cups Milk.
1 Tsp Worchestershire Sauce.
1/4 Tsp Nutmeg.
Salt and Pepper to taste.

INSTRUCTIONS:
In a skillet brown the meat, drain and discard grease.

Stir in the flour blending completely with the meat.

Stir in the beef broth.

Add the milk, cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly.

Stir in the Worchestershire sauce, nutmeg, salt and pepper.

Simmer and stir for 3 - 5 minutes, or until thickened.

Serve on and over toast slices or biscuit.

The yellowtails from our trip go from 4.5lb to 15lb.

I gave all of my fish away except 1. I have too much fish in my freezer.

You're right Cory. A 1.5 to 3 days trip would be much better.

I love fishing for yellowtails and they can put up a really good fight but these babies don't stand a chance when I'm using my Mak10 setup. I was hoping to put use the big gun on bigger models.

Also...haven't seen you post too many report lately. They're great and I really enjoy reading them.
