S.W.A.T. ICast 2013 and couple fish (Pic Heavy)

It has been some time now since I've put up a report. No excuses, I've just been lazy to post and not catching anything worthy of posting :LOL:. An update on my life, I found a job! I have been lurking in and out here and getting caught by Wingnut :ROFL:. I'll make this report somewhat short and let the pictures tell it all.

These are most of the pictures I took at the show. I couldn't go take pictures at other booths which was reserved for media. Lots of new items and was a great, first experience. Raney outfished me the first session and caught a 27 inch legal halibut as well as his first zebra perch :Envious:. We picked up a couple of short pancakes here and there. He was using the Ghost Sayuri color which was matching the bait we were chasing (smelt). His second legal from the surf and he brought this home for dinner :Twisted:. Congrats Raney, it's always a grand old time when we get together to fish.

Raney brought his family to camp at this location and I decided to come along in the morning with a friend to fish. Raney's brother, Jonathan, outshined us with his monstrosity of a halibut at 29 inches. :Surprised::EyePop: We found a good low tide trench/trough and stuck to it the whole time picking off pancakes here and there. There was no baitfish present this time but the fish were aggressive and we missed a couple of hook ups. We saw Ken down already fishing before we got to the water. He didn't have too much luck and decided to go to a different location. Raney ended up with the most shorts and I got a couple with my first corbina on the LC. I actually saw it swim after the LC and slam it :Shocked:. Jonathan ended up taking the fish to cook at the campsite since one hook was lodged straight in its eye and I handed them my corbina since it was bleeding pretty bad. Hopefully he'll release his PB next time :Cool:. His first legal ever and he's been hooked on surf fishing since he's moved over from Alabama. Congrats buddy!

I was out the night before and decided at 2AM to man up and just go on a couple of hours to fish the early morning. I wanted redemption after being outfished by the brothers and it paid off :Dancing Banana:. Waves were 2-3ft and tide was rising. I saw plenty of holes when I first got down to the sand and didn't seem like there were any fish home. I moved over and started to fan cast as quick as I could to cover a lot of ground. I get my first hook up and it comes straight off. I sit at one hole and kept telling myself that there has to be a fish in this whole :Evil:.

I hook up and this fish was mad :mad:. It started doing aerials over the waves and I saw it was a halibut doing back flips and trying to unlodge the lure. I knew this fish was going to be close to legal but thought it possibly could have been short. I ease it in finally and tail grab it. Legal halibut at 22 inches on the dot! :LOL: I throw it back and didn't want to deal with it shrinking. Didn't have anybody around to take a picture with it.

I started to move back towards the direction I started and surfers started to pack the area as well as other beach goers. Worked the hole and got a hard slam. I set the hook and I could tell it had some weight to it. We went back and forth and I pulled the fish in. Took a measurement and it ends up being between 22-3/4 inches to 23. Another fish I didn't want to deal with even though I wanted dinner for my parents :Evil:. Well, I can't complain since I just caught two legals this morning and it has been awhile since my last legal :LOL::Thumbs Up:. I fished for a couple minutes more before I started to drench in sweat. The humidity mixed with the heat made me look like I took a bath in the ocean by the time I walked to the car.

Peter! Great to see you out again! Nice that you took out your buddies to get them onto some fish. Under an excellent guide and an amazing AO, your buddy's first flattie was a monster! You guys sounded like frat boys when he landed that thing! Also, great job on the corbina on the LC! You certainly join the ranks of the elite with that catch. Glad you got back out and found some redemption too. Keep working hard; I know that you had been looking for quite some time to land that dream job. See you at HG5.

P.S. Text me that LC pattern name. You seem to love it and I want to try it out some day.

At first I thought you were into NASCAR with all the team shirts.....JK Way cool to share the experience at ICAST. I was gonna check it out with SEEKER but that just didn't work out.

Nice fish as well. That Zebra Perch is crazy looking.

I was pretty stoked for him since he missed out the session before because he couldn't get up out of his bed when his brother kept trying to wake him up. We were rubbing it in to him and we definitely gave him a good ribbing after catching that monster :LOL::Twisted:. I'll probably see you sooner than HG5 with us being on the same team now. LC pattern is called "Sexy Blue" and don't worry about picking one up... :Thumbs Up: One will be in your fanny pack the next time I see you. :Cool:
