well, decided to take a couple newbies (coworkers) out to Malibu area this am for their first surf fishing sesh (actually the 2nd for Leila)...

It's been a while since I've posted up a report, just really enjoying fishing with pops and the BU crew...

anyhow, decided to post this report since I've never had a day as good as this am so far :Big Grin:

met up with the newbies around 6:30am in Malibu and went to the crab depot to make some crabs... not too difficult to get enough sandcrabs, but wow the air was already pretty warm/muggy... I was sweating already just from digging up a few sandcrabs

anyways, went to the spot and noticed lots of birds already crashing the waters out there... outside break, inside break, and in-between! Hmmm... I'm thinking this might be a pretty good day for us  Not as many birds as some of you guys have been reporting down in SaMo, but definitely plenty up and down this beach...

here's some of the arrival conditions and the birds out there...

water was pretty murky inside... very little salad... medium waves with the occasional larger set/surge. Set them up on some Shimano Clarus rods with Stradic Ci4 3000 reels, 15# PP braid, 8# fluoro leader, and size 4 Owner EBI baitholders...

I give Leila's mom a few pointers, pin on a large sandcrab, and off she goes... and wouldn't you know right away... she hooks up with her first fish from the surf... a nice YFC! not too shabby way to start

http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu266/dkinla/2EC4765F-17EE-48D5-BC15-5528CA7D68CE-13405-000007D2087E1A06_zpscb624cba.jpg (http://s654.photobucket.com/user/dkinla/media/2EC4765F-17EE-48D5-BC15-5528CA7D68CE-13405-000007D2087E1A06_zpscb624cba.jpg.html)

well, she's thrilled... and this type of action just kept going on, and on...

everytime I looked over... it seemed like she was hooked up... definitely had the hotter stick today!

here's a slightly chunkier model:

action was great... WFO bite on the YFCs... here's one of their double hook-ups!

I had to sneak in on this one:

In between re-rigging some of their lines and helping them out... I also caught a bunch of YFCs too:

http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu266/dkinla/A2143E8F-DCDD-4364-81A5-1299E6AFB652-13405-000007BCF09AD098_zps0d1921c9.jpg (http://s654.photobucket.com/user/dkinla/media/A2143E8F-DCDD-4364-81A5-1299E6AFB652-13405-000007BCF09AD098_zps0d1921c9.jpg.html)

they had to leave a little early during a WFO bite, but oh well... plenty of leftover sandcrabs for me... so of course I stayed a little longer... and lost count...

a passerby took this quick pic:

and probably the biggest YFC of the am:

http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu266/dkinla/7f5c1dc8-96ee-4d21-a1fb-487e2b0fee37_zpsaae1a21d.jpg (http://s654.photobucket.com/user/dkinla/media/7f5c1dc8-96ee-4d21-a1fb-487e2b0fee37_zpsaae1a21d.jpg.html)

didn't have time to tape this one out... but felt heavy... and fought hard...

all YFCs gently released for future enjoyment :Big Grin:

man, caught well over 30 YFCs this am between the 3 of us.. loved getting slammed hard on the drop right after my cast... left them biting too... had to get back to the Mrs  anyways... never had a sesh like this before... and strange that we didn't get any BSP/dink perch between the three of us this am... looked like great structure in close with nice gravel beds and a minor trough... but oh well... we weren't complaining

...but the newbies are probably spoiled now thinking they're gonna get YFCs all the time like this when surf fishing! haha!~~~

thx for reading... have a great Labor Day weekend everyone! my weekend is off to a greeeeaaaaat start

Impressive!!! I've caught yfc on lc's and camo sandworms but never sandcrabs. It doesn't get much better than that. Congrats.

Thx everyone for the cool comments. Yup was an epic day for YFCs for sure... I worry just a bit about trying to find a good spot/bite for newbies... But this day was fantastic!

Great job getting the newbs on some fish! I took the nephews out last month for some rainbow trout action and got them all pumped up. I was fortunate to have a day similar to yours.

Very nice session! The fish have all but disappeared this last week but you seem to have found them. Not only are you sharing great deals, you are sharing your fishing knowledge! Extra points for you! Also, WOW! Nice sized croakers!
