Dana Rea Memorial Tournament 2013 Recap

First I just want to say thank You to Daniela and Irvine Lake for once again hosting the Dana Rea Memorial Tournament. I along with all of my Team 57 Friends and those who knew or had attended one of Dana's Team 57 Events appreciate you giving us the opportunity to come back to Irvine Lake and reminisce about the good times with Dana and the past events, get together and BBQ, talk about upcoming Team 57 events and enjoy another night catfishing tournament at the lake that truly wants you to catch fish.

Thank You Daniela! We appreciate all you do to make Irvine Lake the place we all want to come back and fish! :Thumbs Up:

Like all Team 57's events in the past the day started off early under the shade trees next to the tackle shop and next to the tree that was planted in Dana's honor. When Trolly and I drove up there were several of the Team 57 members already having a good time sharing some old memories and of course, the BBQ's were going cooking up some really good food shared by all who were there.
I had a great time visiting with old friends and talking about the fishing game plan for the night. It was just a good feeling being with Friends who I have shared many a good time with at past events. Friends whom I have made thanks to Dana's events.:Cool:

As everyone was starting to pick things up I received a text from none other than Wingnut who told me he was on his way but was experiencing a little delay with our Orange County traffic. :LOL: I felt pretty bad that Arthur would be driving all this way just to hang out and chat with Team 57 a bit and everyone would be out on the lake making a run at one of the Trophies so Trolly and I hung out a while and just before Arthur drove in he said he had a plan..........Arthur's coming with us tonight!
Once Arthur drove in Trolly pretty much made it clear we wanted him to spend the evening with us in his boat and it didn't take much coercing to convince Arthur there was plenty of room in the little Lund and although it didn't have reclining seats like the big Lund there would be plenty of room on the middle bench.:Big Grin:
Those of you who know Arthur are probably thinking Wingnut, bait fishing for catfish? No way! Well that problem was solved pretty quick when we broke out the Mackerel Pattern Chunk L.C. with 7/0 hooks! :LOL: Fly lined of course.

Once we made it out to the spot we wanted to fish. anchored down and bait in the water the evening went by just too fast sharing some good fishing stories and just enjoying the company. :Thumbs Up:
As the night wore on we were able to bring three fish to the boat. The first one we brought to the boat made us realize we had forgot the net! :Embarrassed: We improvised and made it work. We may not have limited out but we did have a great time!

Toward the end of the evening we decided to head in to the weigh-in to see if we could run into some of the other Team 57 group but it turned out that the night was pretty tough for everyone and most all of the group stayed out on the water for that "One Last Cast" in hopes of that personal best we all go after every week.
As it turned out we had a fourth place fish. But hey, we did get to take a picture with the Irvine Lake Manger Daniela! :Cool:

Daniela, Thank you again for honoring our Friend Dana with his very own Memorial Tournament. We all had a a great time at The Vine!:Thumbs Up:

Arthur, You and I have become Good Friends all thanks to Dana and I am very grateful for that introduction. I'm glad you made the trip out to honor Dana with us and once again I had a great time fishing with you! I know it had to be tough not being able to work the area with the Lucky Craft but you've just got to be patient with the Team Trolltoon Mackerel Pattern Chunk L.C. :Wink:

Great report pontoon. It was so good to see you and your partner in crime (kitty murders) I had a great time seeing everyone at the "Dana Rea Memorial Tourney" I really miss him and all he had done to make "Team 57" all that it was an "Amazing Feat" for sure and I know you guy's really miss him as I had only known him for 4 or 5years. Dana was truly a Great person. I am really greatful for him I just loved this guy.

I guess I was taking a (Kat) nap when you guys came by (I would have like to say hi to wingnut (love the pics of you guy's) when I woke up everyone told me you guys had came by but they knew this old guy needed his rest.

We got in on a little bite and ended up with 3 fish a 11# and one @ 12#'s around 10:30 so we didn't want to move incase they were going to start to go off. I hate Tourney weigh ins when you have to pull anchor 1 1/2 hours before the lake closes, so we took our chances at some more fish.

Thanks Daniella for helping to keep this going your the best next year we need to push for bigger and better. you are doing a great job at the lake I hope your boss's know how hard you really work.

Great report and pics Terry! Good seeing all the Team 57 crew out at the lake to represent and appreciate the impact that Dana made on all of us. Sorry I missed seeing Arthur but me and Rooster were out just trying to beat the skunk. We failed! Lol
A couple of trout guys that don't really fish catfish but it was a great night just hanging with the crew and the friendly banter from all of the boat and shore guys.

Thank you again to Daniella and the rest of the Irvine lake staff for keeping this great tradition going.

Great write up Terry is was good seeing Team Trolltoon out on the water again.

By the time I made it up to the tackle shop (11:30pm) those that had weighed in had already gone home and everyone else was still out fishing. I'm glad I got to chat with Arthur briefly even though we missed each other at the end of the night.

Good times as always celebrating Dana's legacy with the rest of the Team 57 crew!

That picture of Chunk in the Team 57 shirt is priceless!

Terry, I see in you a lot of things that I saw in Dana. He really chooses his friends well and surrounds himself with good people. I'm glad that Dana introduced us at my first Legends event. He said, "I'm going to introduce you to a couple of people, you're going to like these guys..." and walked me over to you and Trolly. Well, he was half right, :Big Smile: just joking Chris. :ROFL: Thank you for the yummy stuffed grape leaves... and how in the heck did you lose that big fish?!? :Envious:

Trollmeister, Pontoon and Wingnut all in the same boat?! :EyePop: I bet the whole lake was looking at you guys doing crazy, silly things :LOL:. Not much into the freshwater scene, but I do enjoy the reports from team Trolltoon. I might have to ask for a guide service from you guys one day since my buddy likes to go to Irvine Lake from time to time and it's in my neck of the woods. Great to see everyone had a good time!
