Figure I'd post up some photos from my Honeymoon earlier this month.
Isla Mujeres is a small island right off of Cancun (about 15 min ferry ride). We spent 10 days there, but mostly just relaxed and tooled around the island in a golf cart.
Didn't get much fishing in, but managed to land a couple barracuda from the docks in front of the hotel. And we also did a guided flyfishing trip at Isla Blanca on the mainland.
Managed to catch 1 Permit, and had a Tarpon on the fly as well, but it shook off. Lots of shots at Permit, a couple shots at Bonefish, and 1 shot at Tarpon. I definitely need
to hone my flyfishing skills before I attempt a trip like this.... though the constant wind wasn't helping much.
Other than that, we snorkeled a little bit around the island, checked out the dolphin discovery place (but only to swim with manatees), and did a whale shark excursion.
Not much to report, but here's the pics:

Didnt take a ton of pics, since we had already seen most of the sights in the area on a previous vacation.
Enjoy.

Cool! And the manatee, did you sashimi it right there or save it for the BBQ?

And doesn't Isla Mujeres translate to "Wet Island?"

also, what fly did you get permit on?

thanks

Yah, I brought a boat prop to skin sashimi off the manatees back. Talk about delicious. Kind of like a mix of tuna belly and bacon.

Pretty sure Isla Mujeres translates to "Whore Island."

I believe the fly was either an olive or brown defiant crab.

LOL ... literally it's Isla (Island) Mujeres (Women) ... Island of Women (could say Ladies, maybe)
"Whore Island" would be stretching it ... but possible. I'm just looking at the pure translation ... not from a local point of view ;>)

Hmmm...never got the S.W.A.T. memo that you were getting married. Or is this a delayed honeymoon? Or is my old ***** just not remembering correctly? Either way congrats Mike! Looks like you had a great trip. I hear those Manatees like Alabama rigs with green gummie worms on all five hooks. Toro and bacon taste? Sorta like that dolphin you caught...wait, you released that pup. Been waiting for an opportunity to swim with a whale shark...that's awesome. How big was it? Only seen them on long range trips and they wouldn't let me jump in. Maybe on one of my next trips to the East Cape.:Big Grin:

Good times...thanks for sharing!

Haha, thanks Don.
Sorry... didnt send out a memo. Wedding was June 29th.
Whale shark was probably about 30ft. Any time you get a chance, I say do it. It's unforgettable. They are just massive.

And they actually prefer Alabama rigs with lettuce.
