View Full Version : Need help determining a ballpark cost for this boat

I'm trying to help a friend figure how much he should price this boat. All I know is that it is a 1988 Commander, 16 ft, and open bow. Pristine working condition. Here are some pics. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Whats the horsepower on that engine ?

Looks in great shape.

I'd guess around 4k.

The few pics I see don't tell a complete story, but it looks great.

They do make a blue book for boats. At least its the right season to sell

Thanks for your input. Yeah I know about the blueblook (NADA I think its called) but for whatever reason I can't seem to find the listing of this boat in there.

Whats the horsepower on that engine ?

I'll try and find out. He told me they've used it for water skiing, so I imagine it has to pack some horses. Thx.

120 hp but my friend just told me he tried to start it and it wouldn't fire up. Now I'm wondering how much it's worth if it has a broken motor?

I wouldn't pay 4K for something that old even if it looks good. Here was the deal I got earlier this year.
1999 nitro fish and ski boat with 150HP for only $6000. Everything was in a great condition and the motor starts right up and was a lot quieter than the 150 on my nitro bass boat. My recommendation is to not rush into buying a boat and take your time searching for a great boat at a greater price.
