Short story...beautiful hot day but no fish.

Long story... I was asked to took some distance relatives from Finland to go catfishing so I took them to one of my favorite lake - Irvine Lake.

We started the day with high enthusiasm that we'll get some fish but as soon as we've arrived, I knew it was going to be a very tough day. The lake has lost a huge amount of water. I've been going to this lake for the last 5 years and the water level is the lowest I've seen.

Since my guests couldn't stay the entire night for fishing, the game plan for the day was to move around and try to find some structures in hope that the cats will crawl out and play. On the way in to the tackle shop, I found $25 worth of wadded up bills, which I could have easily pocketed to cover the cost of this expensive trip, but I decided to hand it to the service cashier in hope that some good Karma will be coming in our way.

We started out in the flat where they recently stock, but after a couple of hours of sitting around with no sign of fish other than the occasional carp acrobat, we decided to move to the west shores. We hit every coves on that side, then on to the dam, and then to Sierra cove with absolutely nothing.

The day was winding down and eventually my guests gave up and said lets go home. I was disapointed and felt really bad that I couldn't get them on the fish. We talked to some people on the way back and they didn't get much if any either. Some people got a few trout in the morning and I did see a boat that did well in the evening using downrigger for trout.

Irvine Lake is still my local favorite lake though. The staffs are great, the view is beautiful, and the fishing is generally good although this occasion was piss poor with no love from the Karma God.

Below are some pics from the lake and a dead shad that we found. A note for you bass guy, I saw a ten plus school of large basses cruising the boat dock. We couldn't get them to bite on anything although a couple did come very close checking out my wacky rigged six inches plastic blood worm.

Thanks for the report and pics! It's a bummer when you want to get someone on fish so bad and it just doesn't pan out. But hey that's fishing sometimes unfortunately. With the water down and all the fish in that lake you would think it would be easy. Lol Still my favorite local lake too, even when the fishing karma isn't panning out. You will slay them next time.

Its just to hot during the day for the fish to bite. You have to slow your presentation down a lot to entice a bass to bite or even a catfish.

Good stuff on returning the money, Karma will repay you soon. Dont you worry!
