Had a last-minute opportunity to fish, and decided to try Castaic. Heard there had been some nice model stripers caught. Fished from late afternoon till closing. I had completely forgotten about the night fishing event, otherwise, I might have just done that instead. But it worked out for me anyway.

There were still a lot of skiers and pleasure boaters around when I launched, so I headed for some more secluded water. Surface water temps were a balmy 80 degrees, and the air temp was a comfy 107. But we were pleased to find schools of stripers hanging on the drop offs and points. We proceeded to pick up some smaller stripers, and a few green bass. I ended the day with one nicer one (6lb 2oz) before the sheriffs came and kicked us out. The stripers liked SF-blend shad patterns in chartreuse over white, fished deep.

How was the night fishing event?

That's a nice one. Catching them on the fly rod sounds like fun,.
