Well after some delays the other day my buddy and I finally got to the beach a little around noon for our first real session of surf fishing. Scouted out Bolsa Chica on Google and went to the area on its far south. Must say it was a pretty good day. Spotted a bunch of legal sized halibut and some beans or croaker dashing around the surf, and some almost ran into me. First fish of the day was a teenie halibut, probably only 6in or so, but after an hour of fishing the outflow right there I decided to try for some bsp walking the beach. We had some luck with that. filled up our pockets and tried to cook them but our lady folk had no part in that, so instead we saved them for later to use as bait for some nighttime shark fishing.

Caught a decent sized thornback ray within 15min. or so(snagged him unfortunately) Luckily there was still some bait on the hook. So I flung it out there for another soak, and not long after my rod tip was bending at inconsistent intervals of the waves so I decided to check it. Well whaddya know after a couple minutes I get my catch into the break and I can see its a leo. probably around 3ft but right as my buddy went out to grab it, my line snapped.:Head Bang:(didn't use a wire leader.) I hurriedly grabbed a wire leader outta my bag and put the hook right on the snap swivel, tied to my shock leader, re-baited and flung it out there one last time. Set the rod in its holder and was standing around talking to my lady(she wanted to get a shark pretty bad) then all of a sudden my reel went nuts. Line was going out in spurts of 20yrds, tried like hell to get my rod out of the holder, my bud had to help me.(sorry babe this ones mine):Big Smile:.So after 10-15min and a half mile down the beach we finally land this biggie probably about 4-4 1/2ft(forgot the measuring tape). couldn't get the hook out so we cut the leader close to the hook and pushed the fatty back in the water. still had enough fight left in him to get gone pretty quick.

still waiting on pictures,(only taken of the shark) so I'll get them up when I can.
