I guess ill post some fish porn for y'all being as I lurk from a distance without participating much.

I recently moved out to Santa Barbara and have been enjoying the perks every since.

Caught my first halibut from the surf Wednesday and it was also the first fish on my new rod and reel combo.

The fish measured out to 23 inches and the weapon of choice was a swimbait.

The fish flopped onto to its topside and I wanted to get it back in the water asap so this was the best pic.

Thanks to all everyone who contributes to this great site!

On another note, got home early today from fishing off my kayak due to a great white bumping another yaker just north of my position. A lifeguard on a jetski came and told me the area was closed and that i should go back in. the shark was estimated at over 10 ft and bumped the yaker in only 9 ft of water inside the kelp line!!!!

Shark attacks Pacifica kayaker with 'pink gums and his teeth bared

By Kate Mather

June 27, 2013, 1:18 p.m.

Micah Flansburg was fishing off the coast of Pacifica State Beach on Tuesday afternoon when the bottom of his kayak suddenly jolted.

"I had my paddle on my lap, and my fishing pole and a bottle of home brew," he told San Francisco television station KGO. "The next thing I know, every single thing I had went flying in the air."

It was a shark -- one Flansburg guessed was a 10-foot juvenile great white.

"The shark came and it hit the bottom of the boat, lifted the boat up and grabbed ahold of it and just started shaking the whole boat," Flansburg said. "And I'm just hanging on to this thing."

Ross Webber, who was in another kayak about 10 feet away, watched as his son-in-law tried to stay in the boat.

"He was riding like a bull and keeping his balance," Webber told KGO. "And I was like, 'Go for it! Don't fall in the water!'"

Flansburg guessed the battle lasted about 10 seconds before the shark let go. Pacifica police said the fish briefly circled the kayak before swimming away.

Authorities noted the attack "occurred outside of the area where surfers and swimmers frequent" the beach -- Flansburg told KGO he was about 100 yards offshore -- but said signs would be posted "in a precautionary measure."

Flansburg called the incident "intense."

"It was just like the Discovery Channel," he told KGO, "where you see the eyes roll to the back of the head and the pink gums and his teeth bared."

John the fishing does suck when you can't get out and do some. Remodel work on the house is killing me. Mikey and I are going out this morning (Sunday) all be it on a boat. Maybe we will get to see the White Shark swimming around, that would be cool.

BTW camperjay nice post and congrats on the legal. Continued good luck and be safe out there...
I am also in the SB area.

To make a shark stick with a diameter that will take a 410 guage shell might be good when going out :???:
