Did a last minute mission to the LAB this Sunday with the boys Rude Boy and Carmelo! Wanted to do something closer as the Jungle was kinda slow the other day. Plus it gives us something new to do. Now I've never had real good days in Los Al. Mostly with Halibut at 72nd St Jetty but that's it. Nothing really special in the harbor. So I didn't expect much on this trip. We launched from Mothers beach on a very low tide and fighting the current as we kicked up towards the mouth of the harbor. Hitting docks as we passed along, not even a bite. The guys got some sand dinks, that's it. I was really starting to believe this was gonna be how the rest of the trip would be. I said let's try around this corner real quick, fighting some tougher currents this time. Just had that feeling this spot would be much better. I got in to the docks and started to toss my SWB Lokey Special Jig with a Gary Yamamoto Flapping hog. On one cast I was letting it drop when my line started to peel. I set the hook up right away! Bam! Fish on and so was the fight. Turned out to be Spottie, the bass we were looking for. Fought like a champ for a decent size. Got him in the net, snapped some pics and back in the drink he went. First fish of the day for me was a SBB. Oh yea,.. Not long after that Carmelo hooked himself a toad spottie around the same docks. He was throwing around a Warbait jig with a Pearl swimbait. Nailed a real nice one. So that's how the beginning of our SBB Luau began. The water clarity was great, wind was picking up but so was the fishing. Rude Boy would later catch the toad of the day. a 2.5# pound SBB on 6# test. He was throwing around his old reliable Texas rig worm set up. You can never go wrong when tossing that around for some spottie. On one of my best nights fishing for spotties, all they wanted to bite was a worm. Nothing else. I switched up to the worm rig as well and hooked into some more fish. Obviously the dinks started to bite this set up more but eventually you would hook into a nice fish. We kicked around all over the harbor. Even made the harbor crossing in the middle. Funny when you do that in the float tubes the wind picks up and all the boats start heading right at you LOL Also the current works against you and a crossing becomes a good work out! I was surprised at the end of the day how much fun we had at the LAB. Real surprised! We finished off this epic trip with a meal at In-n-Out. 3X3 with a chocolate shake for me! ;) After that work out it was a well deserved lunch.
Hope you guys like the pics! Peace,.. \m/

Nice spotties!
Most of the time, I seem to only get dinks if anything. Hows the jetty right now?
