After last Sunday's Croaker fest of the "wrong" kind... Don (Bachiboy), Jerry (JerryG) and myself decided to hit the surf again on Sunday and fish the ultra tide swing from the Super Moon cycle. We weren't sure how good the bite will be, but at least we can check out all the structure from the low tide at grey light.

We hit the surf at 5:15am and fish until around 8:30am. A short session with all of the catch coming in the first half an hour... then nothing after that.
The grey light bite was quite strong with Yellow Fin Croakers (Croakers of the wrong kind) hammering the LC's left and right. The fun part of the morning came when a school of White Sea Bass came through in the surf line and freaked us all out. These were 8-10 lbs class Ghosts that came right up to us waist deep in the surf and bolted back out to sea. :EyePop: They came so close, we could see the vertical stripes on their bodies as they turned away from us... We were casting like madmen trying to get them to play... unfortunately, they didn't come back. Saw some huge Corbina cruising the shallows. I mean these brutes were 20-24 inch plus units.

We got a bunch of YFC's, Don caught a toad of a Zebra Perch dropshotting a Zoom Fluke. It was a new species for him and earned the Old Guys some exotic catch points. Way to go Don! :Big Grin:

I was blessed and beached two legal Halibut within 5 minutes of each other. :Envious:
Barely legals, but legals nonetheless and earned another 20 points for the Over the Hill Gang. :Dancing Banana:
Well, this past weekend should keep the Youth vs Experience Trophy where it belongs... in the hands of the Veterans. :Neener Neener:
I do have to mention that Team Rookies are short-handed this month, but it looks like the Old Fogy Stogies are running away with it again.

Next month we will be changing up the format so Veterans and Rookies can be on the same Team.

Competition Update - As of 6/24/13
Team Veterans - 89 Points
Team Rookies - 11 Points

Jerry, you get to fish on back to back weekends... how did you manage to pull that off bro? Always a pleasure sharing the sand with you my friend. Let's make it three weekends in a row...
Too bad those White Sea Bass didn't hang around for a little while longer, we would have hung a couple for sure. :Crying:

Don, first of all... CONGRATULATIONS on the birth of your new baby Girl this morning. :Applause:
Secondly, it was fun fishing with you again my friend. Your dropshotting brings a nice change of pace to the LC world.
Third... if I was Team Captain next month, I wouldn't pick you... your fishing days are over for awhile my friend. :Big Smile:

Have a great week everybody.

Arthur (Wingnut)

So, I'm sitting here in the hospital, looking at the ocean from our room in Santa Monica, thinking "I'm right where I need and want to be." My wife and I gave birth this morning to a beautiful baby girl...Erin.

Yesterday, Poseidon gave me an awesome "baby" gift in the form of one heck of a fat, beautiful zebra perch...my very first.:Big Grin: it was great to share the moment with you guys yesterday. Way to go on the double legals commander! Hope to get out there with all you guys again soon!

Looks like a good day on the water with good friends! Thanks for the report and pics Arthur. Love those custom lures. Gonna have to try and get to HG5 and win me one. Lol! Two legal hali's in 5 minutes is quite the feat. Jerry's LC might just work better stained purple! Lol

Don, Congratulations to you and your wife on your new addition! That is awesome news! :Thumbs Up::Thumbs Up:

That looked like a fun outing with Don and Jerry. I was excited to hear that the Veterans were able to put some more points up on the board before the end of the month and I'm sure the new format is going to bring some more excitement to the S.W.A.T. Team next month.

Arthur, I hope to have the opportunity real soon to hit the sand with you.

Awesome job out there Arthur! I can't believe you've already caught up to Peter on the legal count
This month has been less than spectacular for team rookies, but I have to admit the veterans still put on a hell of a show!
I've been so busy this month but i'm determined to get out there at least once more before the month is over and try to put a few more points up.
Sounds like there's a lot of life stirring in that AO... i'll be out of town again in a couple of day so I may have to pay a visit there tomorrow :Secret:

Don, congratulations on the fatty zebra perch! That's an awesome catch from the surf you don't see everyday.
An even bigger congrats for the new addition to the family :Big Grin: Very happy for you bro!

Great session fellas!

Commander: back to back legals within minutes of each other? C'mon, give us a handicap next month. How about 30 point headstart? Where's my invite to fish? I need to get on my induction fish real soon!

Jerry: i have only fished with the commander 2 times but getting skunked in his presence seems like a regular thing. At least you are n the winning team 2 months in a row.

Don: congrats brother!!!!!!! I see a play date with both of our newborns in the distant future! And by play date, i mean while the wives watch the babies, and the toddlers play together, we fish.

Well, maybe I should've gotten my tired-a** out of bed to join you brothers, but I had to help my actual brother move on Saturday, so I was BEAT!! Sorry you guys missed the ghost parade, but jeeez Commander, you always seem to be the "lucky" one.

Don - That fat pig looks like a cartoon character! You know, the one big fat kid they call "Tiny". Nice exotic. Congrats on the birth of Erin (for the third time today :Big Grin:) even if you had the easy part of the deal nine months ago. And I'm with Arthur - I do NOT want you on my team next month - or maybe for the next few months - as great as a fisherman you are, you're a better dad, so you're just gonna be an anchor in the surf for a bit.

Jerry - Don's told me a lot about you - I look forward to maybe being on your team!

Nice work boys!!

Don, congratulations brother. I am very happy for you and your wife. I wish you and your family all the best
I am sorry your super chunky zebra perch had to get overshadowed by the birth of your baby girl, but I am sure you're ok with it
I am still shocked by how FAT it is

Jerry, you beat my PB slug... jk jk (not really, you actually did)
I am sure you'll do better next time, especially when you put some waders on. I get cold and uncomfortable in my leaking waders.

Arthur... your reign is long from over. I know you'll continue to own up the surf for years to come and I am more than happy to sit back and watch you do it :UDaMan: Thanks for the good read.

WTG Arthur.... on landing the (2) two legals within five minutes of each other! You have an amazing talent when it comes to locating feesh! It must be your ...

As always Sir .... another fun report to read. :Thumbs Up:
I look forward to fishing with you again in the near future.

Hi ya Jerry ....
That was quite an exotic that inked you, it must have been one-heck-of-a :Slap::Slap: slug-fest out there! :EyePop: And that was caught on the LC ... did it hit hard??!!
I am so surprised that we haven't ran into each other yet, seeings that we frequent the same AO's so oftenly..... maybe we'll meet up soon!
I hope to read one of your reports about the BIG one that you landed from our local waters!
Take care my Brotha Jerry!

"Congratulations" Don and Chris :Beer Toast: on your new species and another PB (Erin) and of course the magnificent chubby Zebra Perch too! :Big Grin: Trophies all around!
I'll bet that Nathan is not only curious but also a bit excited too .... about being a big brother to his new lil' sister Erin!
I loved it so much when my sons were small enough for me to hold in my arms :Envious: ... good heart held memories indeed. I sometimes think back and really miss those simpler days when my grown up sons (adult men with their own kidlets now) were just kidlets. It just seems like it was yesterday to me.
Don ... something will be coming in the mail soon for all of you... keep an :EyePop: out for it!
I know that your hands will be very busy with your expanded family and all ... and so I'll miss reading about all of your regular epic sessions in the salt!
Take care my Brotha Don!

Back to you now Arthur .....
PS .... when I look at those custom painted lures of yours .... I can't believe my eyes .... they are absolutely; "breath-takingly," beautiful!
How many of these beautiful lures have you donated to Poseidon? I don't know that I could throw one of these beauties into the salt .... Hmmmmmm
PSS ... "MAN"! .... I would have loved to have been in the water with you guys when you got schooled by the WSB! :EyePop:

Thanks sir! It was great getting out there with you guys again. Hopefully, this latest addition to the family won’t shut my fishing down completely...BUT, as you said, if I were team captain, I wouldn’t count on me. There is a glimmer of hope. Thanks Jerry! Skiff trip for ghosts or yellows...ummm, READY!!!! “Honey, I gotta go out for a while! Ben and Jerry (no pun intended) NEED my help with sumfin.”:Secret:

Congrats on your baby girl Don and a nice Zebra perch.
DR
Thanks DR. That zebra perch was a pretty amazing fish. I’ve never caught one before, but the speed of that thing is incredible. It’s not a wahoo or tuna, but I got to watch that thing cut across a wave 20-30 yards in nothing flat. I don’t think a bean coulda made that run that fast. And, when it was flashing in the water, the bars almost looked like that of a wahoo...pretty cool.

Don, congrats my friend.........:Applause:
Thanks bro! Two “new species” in consecutive days...pretty awesome!

Don, congratulations brother. I am very happy for you and your wife. I wish you and your family all the best
I am sorry your super chunky zebra perch had to get overshadowed by the birth of your baby girl, but I am sure you’re ok with it
I am still shocked by how FAT it is
Thien
Thanks Thien! I don’t think the zebra bot overshadowed too much by my daughter. Well, maybe a little, but I was pretty thrilled when I got to cross both off my bucket list. :Big Grin: That was a fatso of a zebra. Makes what I mentioned to DR about the speed even more shocking. Not sure how that pig could move so fast.

First, we need to thank the Lord for Dons healthy baby girl..:Big Grin:
That zebra perch is a fatty, they do put up a nice little fight.
Well done guys,
Robert
<><
Thanks Man! And, yes, thank God. My wife, son and I have truly been blessed with this baby girl. She’s a VERY good baby and is incredibly quiet. Hmmm, if she stays that easy, maybe I will get back in the surf soon.

We were all just amazed at the size of the zebra. It was an awesome surprise to cap off a great day with friends.

That Zebra Perch is so cool and that thing is fat. I thought those were vegetarians?

That’s exactly what we were thinking when I caught that thing. Guess he had a hankering for some meat. Sorry I didn’t respond to a couple of comments that you made to my earlier posts...thought it might be better to let those reports fade out instead of stringing them along and stealing anyone else’s thunder. Still looking forward to meeting you out there in the surf one of these days!

Good job fogies!! And Don, glad everything went well with your new daughters birth. Our beaches are showing signs of cleaning up, and we may have a fish or 2 to contribute before months end.
Thanks Mikey! Hope to be hearing that things are firing up in the surf soon! Gotta get that northern surf bite going.

Don I told Noriko the good news, she and I are both very happy for you and your family. Pictures when you can please.

Otherwise another great report by the Old Guys.... You know the bloods in the water now with only a few days left in the month. I say its all over but the :Bawling: for the youngins

WWO
Thanks Bill and Noriko! She is a big bundle of joy. We were in the hospital and I kept firing off pictures with the intentions of posting a couple of good shots. Tried to post from my phone in the hospital but couldn’t get the codes from Photobucket to copy over properly. Figured it’d have to wait till we got home. She was so well behaved that we watched a ton of tv and movies most of the time we were there...Kris even told me to go fishing since we were near the beach.

“Congratulations” Don and Kris :Beer Toast: on your new species and another PB (Erin) and of course the magnificent chubby Zebra Perch too! :Big Grin: Trophies all around!
I’ll bet that Ethan is not only curious but also a bit excited too .... about being a big brother to his new lil’ sister Erin!
I know that your hands will be very busy with your expanded family and all ... and so I’ll miss reading about all of your regular epic sessions in the salt!
Take care my Brotha Don!
Thanks Dan and Rhonda for the very special card that you sent. We just received it today. You are too kind sir. We are incredibly blessed with two wonderful children and Erin is a perfect addition to our family. It was a heck of a week, starting with that pig zebra perch. Looking forward to following the coming month’s competition...and maybe even sneaking out to try and contribute to whatever team is crazy enough to draft me. We’ll see, things are looking good so far, cuz this girl is VERY well behaved...unlike her old man!

To keep my fishing urges in check I’ve avoided reading all fishing reports.
Been wondering where you’ve been over the last couple of months. You’re a stronger man than me...this damned addiction has me glued to FNN reports, which in turn, will fuel that urge and I’ll be jonesing too much to avoid getting out there.:ROFL:

Nice job on the legal flatties Art. I haven't been in the surf for awhile. We've been chasing Stripers. Binh and I killed it at Castaic last Sunday. Thanks for letting us use the SWAT assault vessel bro. We're going back out this weekend if you want to join us.

Always a great read when you report Arthur and as always some good catching!! Haven't been out much down here but when I do get out it's been for about 5 casts, 100 pounds of kelp and eel grass and then back home. Don, a huge congrats on your newest family member!!! That is so awesome. Enjoy every moment, time flies before your eyes.

Thanks Sid! Erin is a gem. Hopefully it holds up so that dad can sneak out every once in a while...rod in hand!:Secret: My wife has been awesome through our latest adventure. We're trying to get our routine in check and it seems to be coming around nicely.

Don, a huge congrats on your newest family member!!! That is so awesome. Enjoy every moment, time flies before your eyes.
Thanks Bob! Time sure does fly by. Having such a little one around again makes me really see how big my son has gotten and how fast his three years have zipped by. Definitely times to treasure.:Big Grin:

July S.W.A.T. Team Competition Update.
As of 7/5/13
Team Pacific Shores = 60 Points
Team Reel Em In = 58 Points

So, I'm sitting here in the hospital, looking at the ocean from our room in Santa Monica, thinking "I'm right where I need and want to be." My wife and I gave birth this morning to a beautiful baby girl...Erin.

Yesterday, Poseidon gave me an awesome "baby" gift in the form of one heck of a fat, beautiful zebra perch...my very first.:Big Grin: it was great to share the moment with you guys yesterday. Way to go on the double legals commander! Hope to get out there with all you guys again soon!

Don
Congrats again my friend... I think you're gonna be able to get out more often than we thought.

Looks like a good day on the water with good friends! Thanks for the report and pics Arthur. Love those custom lures. Gonna have to try and get to HG5 and win me one. Lol! Two legal hali's in 5 minutes is quite the feat. Jerry's LC might just work better stained purple! Lol
Thanks Dan, looking forward to seeing you at HG5. :Big Grin:

Don, Congratulations to you and your wife on your new addition! That is awesome news! :Thumbs Up::Thumbs Up:

That looked like a fun outing with Don and Jerry. I was excited to hear that the Veterans were able to put some more points up on the board before the end of the month and I'm sure the new format is going to bring some more excitement to the S.W.A.T. Team next month.

Arthur, I hope to have the opportunity real soon to hit the sand with you.
I'm going to visit Dana this weekend Terry, to commemorate the anniversary of his passing.
His legacy lives on... :Big Grin: Looking forward to our surf session my friend.

-Daniel
Peter got 10 legal Halibut from the surf this year so far and I have 10... that might change this weekend.
You have 7 yourself Daniel, not too shabby.
The Veterans vs Rookies contest is over. This month's competition is more fun IMO. Thanks for getting Team Reel Em In some points! :Thumbs Up:

Great session fellas!

Commander: back to back legals within minutes of each other? C'mon, give us a handicap next month. How about 30 point headstart? Where's my invite to fish? I need to get on my induction fish real soon!

Jerry: i have only fished with the commander 2 times but getting skunked in his presence seems like a regular thing. At least you are n the winning team 2 months in a row.

Don: congrats brother!!!!!!! I see a play date with both of our newborns in the distant future! And by play date, i mean while the wives watch the babies, and the toddlers play together, we fish.
I think you may need more than a 30 point head start, lol
I don't mind you catching your Induction fish Ken. Just do it next month. jk

Get out there Nate, we're going to need you this month.
Don't forget to have your wife call Don's wife and try to keep him off the sand... :Big Smile: Like I said, go ahead and play dirty, all is fair in love and war.

Congratulations to Don and his wife on the birth of their daughter Erin this morning. Glad we were able to fish with you before the big day. As always it was good times fishing with the guys.

Don--
Ben and I are still taking out to fish on the skiff just let us know when you are ready..

BBQ Sushi--
Looking forward to fishing with you Bro..

"Jerry's LC might just work better stained purple! Lol" --- I was thinking the same thing.

Arthur--With any luck I will be able to hit the beach again this weekend. I will let you know Brother.

It was fun fishing with you my friend and let me know when you can head out again.

Congrats on your baby girl Don and a nice Zebra perch.

Good show gentlemen :UDaMan:

Don, congrats my friend.........:Applause:
Thanks John... good job earning Team Reel Em In some desperately needed points the last few days. Good luck if you head out this weekend. :Big Grin:

Thien
Thanks Thien... I'm just luckier than most, that's all. There are plenty more experienced and talented sticks out there than me. :Envious:

First, we need to thank the Lord for Dons healthy baby girl..:Big Grin:

Arturo,
Great job out there in the surf, those 2 legal flatties pretty much closed the deal for the trophy.........
Who will be the next recipient from, "The League Of Extraordinary Gentleman Fishing Anglers Club"....:Envious:

Jerry,

Last month's contest was another blow out. This month's competition is looking good so far, a close race. You have picked your team well Captain. :Big Grin:
Good luck, and I mean that, even when we're on different teams.
Good luck this weekend Roberto!

That Zebra Perch is so cool and that thing is fat. I thought those were vegetarians?
Nice job on those legals Art, pretty the norm for you. :Big Grin:
89 to 11, wow I don't think the Rookies will be able to close that big of a gap with only a week left.
Nice job on taking third place in the poker tournament last weekend bro. Can't believe you went from short stack to 3rd place. :Envious:
I heard that Zebra Perch are vegetarians, but I'm not sure. I think I've caught two of them before, both on the LC.
As for the poker tournament... yeah, I got crippled early, but kept hanging around and grinding it out. Nobody was more surprised than me that I came back to take 3rd place.
Have fun in Morrow Bay this weekend bro and I'll see you next weekend. :Big Grin:

Good job fogies!! And Don, glad everything went well with your new daughters birth. Our beaches are showing signs of cleaning up, and we may have a fish or 2 to contribute before months end.

:EyePop:
PSSS ... I have the same camera but haven't tempted Poseidon with it yet .... :Crying: it must be due to me drowning two of my iPhones-4's in 30-days while chest deep!

Take care my Brotha!

SP Dan <"))><
Thank you Brother Dan. :Big Grin:
Believe it or not, I haven't lost an single one of those custom LC's from Jkim. I'm extra careful with them and don't throw them in boiler infested surf...
Maybe when he paints a few more for me, I will put them in action more often, I did catch some nice fish with them. :Big Grin:
Good luck this weekend my friend, I have a feeling you're going to make a big impact real soon.

Great report as always, enviable catch as expected. Thanks for taking the time to set it all down and drawing the line in the sand.
Where have you been Frank? I hope you're doing well and getting out there to fish.
Keep September 28th open... Hunting Giants 5 is coming! :Big Grin:

Nice report as usual Wingnut,

Thanks Mark... yes, those Pugs are a handful, but I consider them my kids, lol
Looks like you guys put together a great event at Corona Lake last weekend, congrats. :Big Grin:
I have to say "You Da Man" for cooking for everybody. :Thumbs Up:

I always love your parting shots the most! Can't wait for the HtG5 event this year!

TS
Thanks Steve, nice job on a successful event at Corona Lake, very well put together and everybody had a great time. :Big Grin:
Looking forward to seeing you at HG5, bring the family!

I've been swamped at work every weekend for the last two months. To keep my fishing urges in check I've avoided reading all fishing reports. Arthur text me today to check Pm's and I read these reports to find the young guns getting there butts kicked  I'll be back on the beach next weekend so beware old timers

Thanks sir! It was great getting out there with you guys again. Hopefully, this latest addition to the family won’t shut my fishing down completely...BUT, as you said, if I were team captain, I wouldn’t count on me. There is a glimmer of hope. While I was in the hospital room, Kris told me to go fishing cuz there we were just sitting around watching movies. I had a suspicion that I was being set up...not like I had packed a rod with us anyway.
