Can a Stradic Ci4 1000 reel be set up for bass and catfish? Which fishing line type and rated line shall I spool? I would like to pair it up with my Vendetta Bass rod. I don't want to spend money on a new reel for catfish unless I have to.

it'll probably be fairly undergunned. I'd use a 2500 or higher size reel. It'll do in a pinch though if you really can't get another. Spool it up with some 4lbs equivalent diameter braid.

I have mine spooled up with 10 lb powerpro in moss green. I set it up as a carolina rig and use 8-10 lb mono as the leader. If you are fishing stocked cats, it will be fine. 2500 / 3000 is better, but the 1000 will be fine.

I can't see using a Stradic Ci4 1000 for cats unless u were flylining crawlers or other bait on a med or med/light rod. That reel will definitely handle the stocked cats though. For catfishing just get an inexpensive 2500 or 3500 and be done with it.

A 2500 sized reel is way overkill for stocked cats which are generally in the 1-3 pound range. I use my Sedona 1000 spooled with 6lb mono with a ML rod which makes it much more fun.

I should clarify that I was talking about cats stocked at city park lakes. If you're fishing at pay lakes which stock much bigger fish, you should obviously upsize your gear. As bman touched on, I use this setup for flylining or throwing a small sliding sinker setup. If I ever need more distance (which is rare for a city lake), I use a M rod with 1/2-1 oz weight.

I never understood why some people use heavy reels, heavy line, surf poles, and 3-4 oz sinkers to get the same casting distances I'm getting.
