Question for you pros. Looking for a casting rod to go with a curado 300e i want to buy. When the rod says 10-20lbs line wt., is it ok to put 40lb braid on that rod? Somebody told me that that weight is for mono and it would be ok to double the weight for braid? So a 20-30 lb rod would be ok with 50lb braid? Not sure if this is true or not

Opinions vary & this is mine.... :)

Line weight on a Rod is used to justify the weight for casting & 'Drag' pressure used...
I use 80# braid backing, on some Rods rated for 15/30 line...

Use what works for you and how you fish...

You can use the 40lb. braid on that Curado and a rod with that rating. Guys throw plastics for calicos with 65lb. with no problems and the rods aren't rated to that line. Remember, your drag on that reel is maxed at 15lb., so unless you make it "stupid" tight, you should be fine. I've used rods for tuna that are rated for 20-30 and used 50lb. braid with no problems.

Hope that helps.
