Drop shot questions

When fishing a drop shot setup and using braid how long of a floro leader should I be using? I tryed fishing Sunday with a 6 lb mono setup and a 10 pound braid with a 5 ft leader of 6 lb floro. I was getting bit more on the the mono while fishing the same rig. Any advice on the length of my floro leader?

Any time I tie on a leader I always make sure the joining knot does not go back in the reel. If u make ur topshot a rod's length u r good to go. I generally go as long as I can.
