thanks. I'm waiting for my work to order more alum in a smaller thickness like 3/16 or 1/8'' so it would be lighter with out drilling the holes (that was a bi+ch) I wish the pictures were better but I guess you can see it well enough.... ill toss it in my pool today and take a picture so you can see how it sits in the water...

and odc said a stAnding deck wouldn't work on a 8' pontoon... I say HA to that

I have that same deck Z, bought it from Creek Co. Made to fit the frame and it's like a tray with 1 1/2 inch sides so if you drop something it stays on the deck. That one Mattmade will work fine but it would be good for him to see the stock one up close and go chinese on it's axx.

matt duarte
09-13-2007, 12:42 PM
A dollar.... man I thought I'd at least be able to get 2 dollars

this deck is plenty big enough forr me, I was going to go for 26 1/2 x 24'' but after sizing it up it would of been too big... I'm happy with the cut I went with I just wish the alum was less than a 1/4 inch.. but I guess better safe than sorry

matt duarte
09-13-2007, 12:46 PM
ya I need to check yours out ron so I can get a better idea and spend the 20 bucks it would cost in matrial to build it instead to ''borrowing'' stuff from my work and worki with what they have

Man I lost the server and couldn't get it back. Okay Z, now I know what you mean. That would be easy to make. It might be a cool thing to check out. I've got lots of wood, I build houses for a living. Matt, with your fabricating talent there is a ton of stuff you can copy. I mean make. Dude I have an idea for a daggerboard setup that should really work well.

Z-TUNAKILLER
09-13-2007, 01:20 PM

Okay Matt, A daggerboard is an old wooden boat boat design that's basicly a keel that you can pull straight up out of the middle of the boat to accomadate shallow water. When it's down you can sail straight and then remove it to fish shallow flats or beach you boat on the high tide. Z it's right there dangling like a steak on a stick.

Hey Matt, where can a guy buy thin diamond plate aluminum for a reasonable price.

matt duarte
09-13-2007, 05:25 PM
any local metal shop should have some.. theres one here off of main st alled k&h metals or pattons has a nice quantity, theres also rancho metals in temecula

Ronira
09-13-2007, 05:45 PM
Cool Matt, need to pick up some small box and other stuff as well. I've got a ton of mod ideas.

tacklejunkie
09-13-2007, 06:14 PM
K&H metals is where I get my machining aluminum. They should have it.
I just checked my local home depot and ace hardware. No go on the diamond plating at either of those places.

I don't have anything to cut it with besides a cutting/brazing torch. K&H does cutting though.
I need a piece 27" x 12-15"

Ronira
09-13-2007, 06:20 PM
I've got lots of saws TJ, by the way if you turn a skillsaw blade backwards it cuts aluminum pretty good. I've got diamond blades for sawsalls and grinders and skillsaws. Oh and jigsaw metal cutting stuff too. Will that stuff work?

tacklejunkie
09-14-2007, 10:54 AM
Just got a piece that is very close to size. If all goes well, I won't have to cut it.

Got it from K&H Metals. It weighs 11lbs and cost me $40. Thickness is 3/16" the panel is 14" by 34".
No doubt a bit of lightening will be in order, but no biggie. Will give me something to tinker with while my back gets better.

Z-TUNAKILLER
09-14-2007, 11:04 AM
Hey, you can get a non ferrous metal cutting blade, for skill/circular/table saw's, spray a little aluminum cutting fluid and it cuts aluminum like butter.

Ron your a ..... CRAZY MAN !

Doh! Looks like I will need to cut a good 6-8" off the end of it..
However it seems to hold my weight OK. I bought some nice pins with keyring holes from home depot to secure the standing plate and the foot rests. Should look factory if I make a good cut.

Z-TUNAKILLER
09-14-2007, 11:10 AM
tj, the metal supply place where you got the plate can shear it for you, it will only cost a few bucks.

measure twice......cut once

tacklejunkie
09-14-2007, 11:16 AM
and for my rod holders, I shall bolt a few Scotty's baitcaster holders to the frame or standing deck. Couldn't think of a good layout for the PVC pipe that I bought. They have these down at wallymart.

Ronira
09-14-2007, 12:23 PM
Hey TJ, now your rockin. You guys will be styling in no time. Hey Z, I just can't hep it.

tacklejunkie
09-14-2007, 12:32 PM
I'll probably take the sheet back down to K&H. They said they can cut it earlier today. I need to take 1" off lengthwise and 6" off the end.
Should take a good chunk of weight off too.

Ronira
09-14-2007, 12:35 PM
Can you drill that plate any to lighten it up at all.

tacklejunkie
09-14-2007, 12:56 PM
Shouldn't be a problem. I have a few drills, a mill/drill press and lots of bits, centerpoints and endmills. I have four holes to drill as well for the pins that secure it to the frame. I'm wishing I had it cut when I was down there the first time :P

Ronira
09-14-2007, 01:11 PM
Your styling, get your motor mount going and your almost done

tacklejunkie
09-14-2007, 01:36 PM
Motor mount and battery tray were included brotha! The battery tray is rated for 75lbs and made of diamond plate. the motor mount is solidly welded from aluminum and a support for the battery tray. Gettin' the little stuff done for when I bolt the power system on. Still need to make a wheel and rod holders, then it's time for a motor and battery.

vanillagurilla
09-14-2007, 02:17 PM
i have a rivet gun and some aluminum rivets TJ. you can just put the plate on and drill a few holes through the plate and into the frame and just rivet them on!! lemme know! or you can cut slits and secure it around the frame with some kinda strap so you dont have to drill. oh if you have that rod holder for the tube can you bring it sunday ??

Ronira
09-14-2007, 04:24 PM
Loving that deck and mount TJ, can see your anchor line pulleys too. Very cool. Do you remember my battery box with the rod holders attached. Might work okay for your ride.

tacklejunkie
09-14-2007, 06:28 PM
Do you remember my battery box with the rod holders attached. Might work okay for your ride.
Yup,
I plan on using the same pins that assemble the frame to hold one of those battery boxes on the rear deck.

Ronira
09-14-2007, 06:34 PM
If you cut a couple of slots in the deck for the strap to loop through the strap that comes with the battery box is another option. On a side note did you lose the server for an hour or was that me.

Z-TUNAKILLER
09-14-2007, 06:39 PM
tacklejunkie, make sure you round the corners, bull-nose top & bottom and deburr all the holes, sharp aluminum is very bad.

Ron, please do not use a cutting blade backwards...its just WRONG ! :thumb:

Ronira
09-14-2007, 07:04 PM
Hey Z, don't worry buddy. That's an old trick for cutting down window mulliens and aluminum door frames, I don't cut backwards, I have turned an old carbide blade around but it's not something I do anymore as I have metal cutting blades for a variety of tools. I've seen that done many times but not so much anymore. I've been building since 1979 and have all my digits. Have shot myself a few times though. Hey I'll give you a call tomorrow, no way I'll get there sunday. That area I was telling you about is where SoCal fished this morning. You can drive right to the water.

Just enter and pass 11&12. Keep going down that road past the marina, you'll see a sign that says sail cove. make a left there, and you can park on the water to unload before moving your car to the parking lot.

If I'm not there, check 11&12, but I'm sure I'll see ya at the gate. Make sure you go sunday, not sat

Hey Matt, is that where thr Buick V6 is going? Just kidding, great job on it. I put a small 12 volt trolling motor on my float tube. Totally portable, hardley no weightb at all. I tested it a Perris, modifications are nill to make it work good. I found it at a garage sale for ten bucks, battery and all.

tacklejunkie
09-15-2007, 11:34 AM
$9 to have the piece of metal cut  They did have a $9 minimum though..

My old cordless drill died on me so I picked up a skill 18V cordless. Waiting for it to charge than I can drill the holes and install the deck 8) Didn't feel like holding the deck in my mill and chancing losing a finger.

I'll be using the same type of pins that the factory used to install the rear deck. It's gonna look nice! Shouldn't get in the way of the foot rest bars either. The deck pins will go through the deck, frame and through the foot rest bars, losing the old pin position and making less parts for assembly.

eldo69

damn guys, u guys are making me want to turn away from my tube and get a toon with a casting deck now ,thanks

tacklejunkie
09-15-2007, 11:53 AM
Hang on to the tube..
They are good for places like Jenks, Jackson, Gregory and hiking them in or hard to access lakes.

The Toons are good for larger lake missions or extended day trips like covering ground at Perris or fighting the chop up at Silverwood.

It would be tough to get your Toon on to Jenks without some help, and it wouldn't even really be necessary to have that big of a craft there anyways.
