hey all,
pops and i took a 4 day flyfishing road trip. we were initially going to just fish the kings river for a few days and then come home, but it turned out a lil different.

we fished the upper kings all day friday for no love at all, maybe 1 bite all day. through every fly we had. i couldnt see any hatch anywere, and my stone flies & glow bugs got no action. and to top things off i stepped into a hole that was much deeper than it looked and found my camera in my vest pocket to to be drenched. :x

saturday we went back to the kings and fished the morning and my dad was looking up the canyon and said "hey those rocks look like yosemite have you ever been?" i said no, so he said "wanna go?"

so we just packed up and drove into yosemite through fresno. what a fantastic place that is, ive never seen anything so beautiful. we got to yosemite around 5:00 and stayed in the tents at camp curry. i couldnt take pics because of my camera being ruined. so bummer there!!!!
there were deer everywhere and you could walk right up to them just fantastic.

we left yosemite sunday morning through tioga pass, and my dad stopped to take pictures along the way. we then stopped and fished the owens above the bridge at bentons crossing, soon as we got there the bite was on. catching them on glow bugs and black nymphs. had one bust my leader as soon as he hit, i didnt even have time to set the hook. so if any one lands a hungry sucker with a pink glow bug in his mouth thats mine :)

thank you owens for getting that skunk smell off of me.
we left at 4:00 for home!
what a great trip

some celly pics of yosemite:

Nice pictures Duffman :!: Even with cell phone pictures; you were able to do the "Magestic" Yosemite justice. :thumb:

I am thinking about taking my kids to the Giant Forest in Kings Canyon and possibly taking a drive to Yosemite as well. What were the campgrounds like? I know that many of them are reserved 6 months in advance. Did you happen to see any that opperated on a first come first serve basis?

Is the park still crowded from that summer rush or is it thinning out a bit?

Sorry to hear about the camera. :( Bummer! Here is a solution to photography while near or in the water:

For about $45.00 you could have the reassurance even if you stepped in a hole or slipped on one of those mossy river rocks.

Thanks for the report!

friday there was absolutely nobody there from pine flat lake up,
on saturday i saw 3 groups of people camping. while fishing the river it seemed like we had the entire thing to ourselves...just fantastic. it was my first time there, so that made it nice.

not sure about the reserving campsites, but like i said they were completely empty.

DAMN! I should have picked one of those up. I was in mammoth for a week last month, I took TONS of pictures, but I was wading in Rush Creek, and didn't realize that the water had covered the Fanny pack I had my Canon in. It's dead now....I was SO mad. I haven't taken the Memory card out yet to try and recover anything.....But anyway, I'm gonna P/U one of those from REI....there's an REI 15 minutes from where I live.

Hey, those are pretty good pictures for a Phone Camera....beautiful!

I have NEVER fished Yosemite. It's just so PACKED with tourists that I would think that the fishing experience would be lessened somewhat. But, I think I'll give it a shot. Even if there are tons of people around, well, the beauty of the surrounding mountains is just too much.

If that happens to be the case; the secret is to buy a map and pack a day-pack.

There are plenty of areas where you can find great fishing and escape the crowds. Some maps even post what kind of fish you will find in the hike-to-lakes.

That Owens is a monster, huh! When I was a young guy, about 8, my dad, bro and I went to Owens and killed it on night crawlers. Then the game warden came around, took our catch, and gave us one hell of a fine. Barbless hooks and artificial lures on the Owens!

Too bad on losing a monster.
