I first fished this particular drainage in late winter this year and didn’t even see a fish.
So taking advantage of the agreeable weather yesterday, I headed up the canyon to satisfy my curiosity. The trail is popular with hikers but most of them stick to the trail. I just headed up the boulder filled creek bed:

The canyon has a few summer resident cabins:

Many big leaf maples call this area home. The leaves –up to 10inches- turn a brilliant yellow in the fall:

The creek does indeed have brown trout. I caught five –all six inches or smaller- on various dry flies. The fish are super skittish.

With my curiosity satisfied, I headed back down the canyon and soon traded sylvan solitude for bumper to bumper holiday traffic.
