We had our annual tournament at Crowley May 10, 11, 12 and a few of us arrived Thursday for a day of non-tournament fishing. The weather Thursday was thunderstorms all around the lake but nothing directly over head. It got a little blown out Thursday afternoon, but not bad by Crowley standards. The tournament started Friday morning at 6:00 a.m. to somewhat chilly temperatures around 31 but warmed up quickly when the sun came up. The water was glass the whole day and stayed that way for the next 3 days. Unbelievable for Crowley. Anyway...on to fishing. It was not good !!! We caught fish, but they were not up to Crowley's reputation. The tournament winner was a 3.3 rainbow, and with 26 people and over 150 lines in the water over a 3 day period...that's not all that great. The average was around a pound and a half. A couple of good things to report. There is a ton of Cutties around a pound holding from Alligator Point to Green Banks and as long as people don't keep the dinks...there will be excellent Cuttie outputs in a couple years.
The breakdown for the tournament for fish caught is approximately:
Still fishing 40% Trolling 40% Fly Fishing 20%
Almost all the trolling catches were at 3 colors on a Needlefish. A couple other lures got hit (Tasmanian Devil and Blue Fox Spoon) but a Needlefish was basically the only lure working.
I'll try and post sme pics later.
