Arrived Wednesday. Drove thru a rainstorm just outside of Independence (picked up gas at Fort Independence Casino which remains the cheapest gas in the Eastern Sierra's at $3.81 for regular). Yesterday started clear and sunny but the clouds picked up and so did the winds. Today started clear and sunny with a few clouds. I was off the lake by noon with my limits, before the winds came up.

Yesterday, picked up a rental boat and some information at the shop from Robin. Started trolling just outside the harbor to Big Hilton at 2-3 colors with a frog tasmanian devil for nada. Drove over to the Relief in McGee and picked my first one on a perch needlefish. Then nothing. With the clouds, I switched to a bikini needlefish and had multiple hits at 2-3 colors from McGee to Sandy Point. Dropped anchor for some bait fishing. As soon as I put my first rod into the holder, bang - a 1.5 pounder. But that was it for the next 3 hours, even moved the boat three times. Back to trolling the bikini needlefish at 2-3 colors to finish out my limit around Sandy Point. A few cutts and the baitfish is what I cleaned. Was out of the gate before 4 pm.

Today, zoomed over to the Relief in McGee and started trolling towards Sandy Point at 2-3 colors with the bikini needlefish. 5 hits over the same spot then it stopped so I trolled to Sandy Point for nada. Zoomed back over the 5 hit spot and picked up another 20 hits. Landed over a dozen but kept my limit - 3 cutts and fat 2 'bows.:Big Grin::Razz: Off the lake by nooon, cleaned fish and eating at Carl's in Bishop by 1 p.

One of these days, I'll learn to post pix... :Rolls Eyes:

Thanks for the great report. Did you use flashers when you were trolling?

I set up my trolling rigs as follows: backing, lead core, 10-25 feet of 6-8# mono, barrel swivel, 2-3 feet of 4# flouro, lure. No flashers. But I polish my swivel to reflect more light.

Is 4# a little light ... especially for Crowley? I was told that I was a fool to use 6# on Bport ... and I have been busted off. Bport folk said 8# ... preferably 10#

thots ???

Congrats on the great fishing ... you used my all time favorite ... even still have an original Bikini or two ... also like the Metallic perch (great lure on Big Bear FWIW)

I think the answer to your question is yes if we are talking about trolling or fly fishing with streamers, we call Crowley trout when they hit "freight trains".

The longer mono acts as a "shock" leader. I haven't had any break me off, yet.

Trolling in 16-22 of water.

Where were you getting the most hits, closer to the SS Relief , halfway to Sandy Point?
