Is spin fishing with lures allowed on the Owens river upstream of 5 bridges road? I thought I had read somewhere it was flies only, but a quick look through the DFG regs online I couldn't find any mention of it. Can someone clarify this for me?
thanks

(E) From footbridge at lower end of Pleasant Valley Campground east (downstream) 3.3 miles along Chalk Bluffs Road to the redwood sport fishing regulations sign. All year. Only artificial lures with barbless hooks may be used. 0 limit.

Below the redwood sport fishing regulations sign you are good to go.

OK, I'm not sure exactly where this sign would be located or what it looks like. If someone had the GPS coordinates of the sign that would be great.

I'm assuming it's in the vicinity of the area of this map ---> http://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.414209,-118.446522&hl=en&sll=37.269174,-119.306607&sspn=11.428275,26.784668&t=m&z=16

I just don't want to be breaking the rules, and I don't want my buddy who is new to fishing to get cited on his first trip out.

It is a Redwood sign on a wood post. Sign is around two feet square and is near a parking area on the south side of the road. I think the sign is a little east of your marks on the map.

drive down the bumpy road until you see a big redwood sign. before that sign good to go with any bait or lures. After that sign crimp the barbs on your lure.

just came from there today and was surprised, right at the first bridge, by a 50 lb beaver. Be aware of his presence. Flows were high too

Did he swim above you and slap his tail? I had one do that to me in the same area a couple of weeks ago. I almost crapped my waders!

Aside from the artificial & barbless regs, remember it's a C&R section only.

I do C&R no matter where I am, of the thousands of fish caught up in Bishop and the surrounding area, I've kept 3. The main point of my original post was just to make sure I don't lead someone new to the hobby into getting a citation breaking the regs. I was pretty sure below the dam was a special regs area but wasn't sure how far so that's why I've never fished upstream of 5 Bridges road because I wasn't sure where the special regs area ended. Now I've got some new territory to explore. Thanks for the info .

For anyone interested, gamakatsu makes a great barbless treble hook that can be ordered off their website. Easy to swap on a Thomas bouyant or rapala f9.
