Headed out today for one of my first few Surf Fishing trips. On the way we stopped and picked up some fresh mussels off a pylon for live bait that we threw on a Carolina Rig. We made it to our first spot and threw the mussels and landed 3 YFC's right in the beginning. We picked up one Stingray shortly after, but then the bite died down for the next hour. We then decided to head to another spot. At the new spot I switched to the LC's and about 30-40 casts in I feel like I snagged a rock! I instantly knew it could possibly be a halibut. Brought it in with just 3-4 cranks. It was almost right at my feet! When I finally brought it up onto the beach we measured it and it came out to 22 1/4" BARELY legal but I can't complain. This was my first halibut ever and just so happened to be legal! :Big Grin:
About another hour in I felt the same "rock" that snagged my line earlier and sure enough it was another halibut that I hooked only about 10-15 ft away! 2 first halibuts in one day! I couldn't believe it. The second one came out to 19". Not legal but it was a nice catch.
After that a buddy of mine hooked up with another stingray and then a Shovelnose then the bite died down again and we decided to pack it up.
Still new to surf fishing, but today was a great day. Can't wait to get out there and do it again! :Guns:
