I use my cheapo bass gear in the salt.

Nothing like deckhands looking at you like ur a weirdo when u roll up with 7'6" Flipping Sticks and 12 lb test. And that's your "heavy" rod.

I don't do much salt water fishing, or else I'd invest in good gear. For now, my heavy cheap bass stuff will do.

Damn darkshadow you had me rolling for a second there. Not your gear but the deckhand.

Yeah my wife got a big tax return so she gave me a grand to spend on whatever so I bought me two outfits. My other rig is a saltist 40 also on a 8ft jigstick. Got the rod for 60 bucks at fishermans. Dan hernandez. Felt pretty good but ill find out soon.

Nextfishingchamp,

Very nice set-ups you got there. If you haven't used some of them yet.. I'll be more than happy to break them in for you and let you know how they performed. :D

I like accurates generally, but have one complaint. I'm a decent caster and have a fairly educated thumb, but every now and then I seem to get a minor bird nest with accurates. I never have problems casting my toriums or trinidads (but their drags are kinda "soft") so I guess I am partial to Shimano. I think the problem lies with accurate's heavy spools that seem to overspin. Other than that I like accurates smooth twin drag and crank power. But maybe my 870 is defective and I'll be more than happy to de-virginized your set-ups.

As for my set-ups.. I don't want some cracked-out fish addicts to come steel my gear so I won't list them.. but they aren't as nice as Steve's. So if you see me on the boats.. go bother Steve and leave me alone with the fishes!

Good fishing everyone.

So has any of you ever gotten anything jacked on the open party boats? Anybody know of some type of lock for your reel? I was thinking about engraving my initials on my reels. I caught some fool in my tackle box before but never got any rods or reels stolen.

I've got my jig tray jacked on a party boat. I didn't know it was missing until I got home to break down my tackle. I've seen people on the boat complaining about their rods being stolen (cause all off the rack calstars look alike), but it's very rare when it happens.

I usually break down my gear on the ride back by separating the reels and storing them in my tackle box so I keep a real close look out for my "investments" now. As for my rods, they are all the same color and design cause I hade them custom wrapped them with my name. As a general rule, always keep and eye out for your gear. But once again, I think "gear jacking" rarely happens but better be safe than sorry.

I caught all my sandbass on my light trout spinning rod with 6# test. What a blast! Try catching a 3-4 pound grumpy ole bass on the light trout rod (7 foot 4-10 lb rated). But I don't recommend doing it on a party boat.
