Where do I begin?!?
It all started Saturday evening when I was a text conversation with Arthur ( Wingnut ).
After we discussed the days events, he decided that he wanted to hit up the Southern Region for some serious fishing.
He asked if I could join him, but I already had plans to do a few things with Tre, for his birthday today.

Fast forward to Sunday at around 10:15 a.m.

I get a text from Arthur and I know it’s good news.
I won’t go into it, because he is going to do a report, but it basically says for me to get my butt down to an undisclosed beach today!!!
I asked a couple of people to join me, but most everyone had to work, including myself, for a couple hours early in the morning.
I received a text from Arthur saying that Peter (PTN) was going to be joining me, and later on another text from Peter confirming.
I wasn’t able to make it to the sand till a little after 8:oo this morning.
But that’s fine, the info I had was better conditions later in the morning..
As soon as I toss my first cast, Fish On!!
A small BSP. It came off buy that didn’t matter. The fish were being aggressive…:Smile:
I looked South and saw Peter walking his way toward me.
I threw my hand in the air and gestured to turn around.
I asked Peter how things were and he informed me that he was packing a skunk and that Danny had 2 BSP for the morning…:Neutral:
I asked where he had been, he told me and I said, “ No, we need to hit these areas”.
I asked what time he arrived and he said 6:00..
I asked if Arthur told him what time to get there and he said yeah, but he said he wanted to fish gray light, UNDERSTANDABLE!
So Peter, Danny and myself proceed to the first area.
Conditions looked great,
Water Temp: 59-60
Swell: 2-3 feet
Waves: 1-2 feet
Moderate Salad
Very Little Bait Fish
**EXPOSED STRUCTURE** :Big Grin:

We all worked the first area for nothing…:Surprised:
I was quite surprised, cause it looked fishy.
But that’s the way it goes sometimes.
So we proceed to the next area, with Danny in the lead and then Peter and me trailing behind.
We still weren’t getting any hits, when Danny gets a bend in his rod and brings in his 3rd BSP.
It was about 8:40 and things weren’t looking good.
But I told Peter that the best area was yet to come.
I was next on the board with a BSP of my own. A solid 10”er…
Peter was still dragging around that skunk…:Skunk:
It didn’t last to long though;

He managed to pull in the first Halibut;

It was about 15-17 inches…:High Five:
COOL, everyone had the skunk off and now it was time to enjoy…:Thumbs Up:

…and it taped out at 21 ½”…:Rolls Eyes:
I got it back in the water and started to fish again.
It was now just around 9:00 and all these beautiful holes were looking pristine!!
I started things off with another BSP, foul hooked and got it back in the water.
I was fishing next to Peter and had told him about my 37” WSB story. I had said that I kept that fish and that I didn’t get another nice fish for like a month…:Embarrassed:

Well things were going a little slow and I stepped up and said that I was going to take the lead to speed up our pace.
I took the lead, made 2 casts and that’s when it started.
I felt a small bump and thought I had a small halibut.
I started to reel it in and it wasn’t putting up any fight what so ever, until it felt the sand underneath it…:mad:
It took a 3 second drag and had my rod almost bent in half..
I would get it close to getting it out of the trench and it would go back in again.
After doing this 5 or 6 times, it finally comes up on the sand. I ask Peter to grab it or at least make sure it doesn’t go back in the water, but there are still small waves wanting to get it back into the trench, so the next time it comes on the sand, I give my rod to Peter and bend over to grab it, but another wave comes, takes the fish around Danny and it gets back into the trench….:Shocked:
Now I’m just hoping that the fish doesn’t come off or the line breaks or the LC comes out.
So now I have the rod again and I get her back on the beach a third time, this time she is going nowhere.
Peter bends over, picks her up and sets her up on the beach;

I could not stop smiling, I just kept looking at it and thinking, “Arthur said I was going to get my 30”er tomorrow”.
I kept thanking My Lord, than I thanked Peter and than I apologized to Danny, for jumping in front of him..:Rolls Eyes:

Let me tell you something, I WAS WORN OUT!!!
But, there were more fish to catch.
After I sent a text to Arthur, I got back to fishing with the guys.
I informed the guys to fish in front of me, so they could catch the next legal, Danny said he would hang back and Peter took the lead.
Again, I apologized to Danny and said that wasn’t my intention. I just wanted to get to the halibut grounds before the tide was to low.
He said it wasn’t a problem and he was happy for me…:Smile:

We started to fish that same hole and a few casts in, I get another hit and I know it’s a legal flatty…:Wink:
Peter looks at me and say’s, “Another One?!”
I just smiled and proceeded to bring it to the beach.
I got it on the sand and soon after, the LC comes off.
Right then, a little wave comes up, the flatty feels the water and uses every bit of muscle it has to get back ion the water.
I had just told the guys that I was going to keep my next legal, so when the fish started to swim off, I told Peter to get the fish.
He tried to step in front of it, but it went around and back into the water.
This flatty was at least 24” and I was kinda shocked. I was going to give Peter a little talking to, but than I thought to myself, “ You just caught a 30 ½” Halibut, SHUT YOUR MOUTH!!” and than said sorry to Peter…:Embarrassed:
He said sorry and that he would bring in “ANOTHER” fish to the area for me to catch…:Group Hug:
Well, truer words were never spoken…:Cool:

I felt a small tick on my LC, I let it sit for a second, then it moved and I set the hook…FISH ON!!!
Peter just looked at me and said he was switching LC’s.
This fish put up a nice fight and after a few minutes I landed another legal flatty;

Danny and Peter said it was at least 28-29 inches, but it just looked a little bigger to me;

This time I just looked to the sky for a bit and gave thanks.
There was nothing for me to say.

Danny ended up catching a small flatty as well and a couple more BSP were caught too.
The tide was getting low and before we got to the other trench, it was to late.
So we made our way back North, stopping at a couple of spots, but the fish had moved out.

I still can’t believe I landed 3 legals, my PB Halibut and than another 30” to boot.

Thank You, for being there and sharing in my 3 ½ YEAR QUEST, to land a 30” halibut.
I look forward to fishing with you again and hopefully the fishing will turn out the other way around.

Thanks for throwing a Prayer out there for me.

Congratulations Robert! Welcome to the dirty 30 club! :ROFL: I couldn't think of a better person who deserved those fish more than you. You fished hard and knew the structure like the back of your hand. I couldn't believe you when you told me that in 3 1/2 years of surf fishing you haven't gotten a fish over 30". In my head, I was thinking, "I bet Robert was going to do it today, he's got the hot stick and I can't even get a perch bite for the life of me." I'm standing and fishing between both Danny and you and couldn't get a perch while you both get a double hook up.:Envious: I finally got the first halibut and was happy to get the skunk off.

I got home and watched the video of you catching the 30+ flattie and I couldn't stop smiling and laughing. I couldn't be any happier and I thought I was more excited yelling and screaming when I grabbed it for you.:LOL: I just saw the disbelief on your face, so I knew you were stoked but just weren't squealing like a little girl like I was. :Not Worthy: Not only did you manage to get your PB and reach your goal, you did it twice in a row!! Sorry about that.. umm.. tiny 24" hali... :Sad::BabbleFish: So I told you, that I'd wake up another one for you. The next 2-4 minutes you landed another 30!:Thumbs Up: I got your back!! :Big Smile:

Congrats again brother. It was a honor and pleasure to be fishing with you. I couldn't be in greater company and you were right about everyone being selfless and I could see it in you. You would have been as pumped up for me or Danny if it was us with those monsters but fate had the those fish in the cards for you.

Dual 30's in a session. I don't think any SWAT member has accomplished that feat in the past! Congrats for sure brotha.Yeah....I got a call from Arthur when he was on his way home and I knew he was going to tell me basically that I had missed out. Boy that AO sure looks insane when there is enough water on top of it. A week earlier it was barely fishable.You have got a real gem down there when the conditions are right for sure. Something tells me that when the WSB start really running you are going to hit the turbos on the SWAT leaderboard.
I'm so happy for you bro....Keep up the great work on the southern flank. Hopefully my area will start to pick up soon because the two hour drive home from your spot is just too much for me...Guess I'm getting OLD.....LOL

Hope you have a wonderful time with Tre on his birthday too!

Robert, first and foremost, I would like to say it was a pleasure to meet you! I've been fishing with Peter for a while now, and I must say, I think you schooled the both of us today. And about jumping out in front of me, I was already reluctant leading from the start since I knew I would be moving too slow :LOL: Proof being, i think every time you looked over, I was trying to fix a birdnest. I think I broke the record for most birdnests in a single session :Embarrassed:

I'm glad that you finally ended up catching that 30" and finally getting into the club. It was simply meant to be :Smile: You don't have to feel bad or apologize for jumping out in front, this padawan would fall for a jedi mind trick! :Wink: I assure you, the next time we fish, and I see that hook pop out of a legal's mouth, and as that butt is flipping his way into the waves, I will do a full on belly flop on top of it to keep it from getting away, since you know... I'm pretty much already wet going with no waders :Smash:

The intel that you provided for me and Peter helped immensely. I think for the first couple of hours we were out there, we were pretty much casting blindly into giant waves with no sense as to where the "hot spot" would be. When I saw Peter walking with another guy in waders in the distance, I had a good feeling it would be the legend himself, Murrieta Angler :Guns: Your presence alone gave us the confidence to keep fishing harder, which would eventually lead to this epic day. I had heard stories about you, but to see the action first hand in person was amazing. Fish after fish, it was a beautiful day. I had some pb's in BSP today, which I was pretty stoked about especially since they came from the LC, so I'm glad you could get that pb butt! I was already convinced that MS anchovy was the best color LC and my personal favorite, and you pretty much confirmed that today! :Thumbs Up:

Infact.....you helped to put me on my first, of many WSB... and what a day that was! You've had multi-species days that the rest of us could only imagine or dream about! Heck....I believe that this is your "pay-back day" for all of the "pay-aheads" that you have given to so many of us. Thanx Brotha!

But on this historically important day Brotha...Poseidon has definitely given you "His" blessings! It means a lot to me ..... to share in your happiness my friend!

What a great read. Congrats on a epic day which ended your quest for the 30" Hali. Some how lightning struck twice in one day for you. You put in the work and have now been rewarded. Very cool!

You are a warrior out there on the sand bro and I'm glad you finally brought these beauties in, very much well deserved.
Your persistence paid off my friend!
You know what, I had a similar experience with Arthur once. I couldnt make it to fish with him, but he told me to get my *** out there the next day and you know what? when he gives you Intel, you better listen, because 99.9% of the time your going to stick something nice. I ended up going to the next day and had one of my best days at Pea Soup (my fav spot by far) alot of memories and fun times there with the crew.

Once again Robert, congrats brotha! Wish I could have been there with you man! I'll see u soon. ;)

You fished hard and knew the structure like the back of your hand. I couldn't believe you when you told me that in 3 1/2 years of surf fishing you haven't gotten a fish over 30". In my head, I was thinking, "I bet Robert was going to do it today, he's got the hot stick and I can't even get a perch bite for the life of me." I'm standing and fishing between both Danny and you and couldn't get a perch while you both get a double hook up.:Envious: I finally got the first halibut and was happy to get the skunk off.

I got home and watched the video of you catching the 30+ flattie and I couldn't stop smiling and laughing. Dual 30's in a session. I don't think any SWAT member has accomplished that feat in the past! Congrats for sure brotha.Yeah....I got a call from Arthur when he was on his way home and I knew he was going to tell me basically that I had missed out. Boy that AO sure looks insane when there is enough water on top of it. A week earlier it was barely fishable.You have got a real gem down there when the conditions are right for sure. Something tells me that when the WSB start really running you are going to hit the turbos on the SWAT leaderboard.
I'm so happy for you bro....Keep up the great work on the southern flank. Hopefully my area will start to pick up soon because the two hour drive home from your spot is just too much for me...Guess I'm getting OLD.....LOL

Robert, first and foremost, I would like to say it was a pleasure to meet you! I've been fishing with Peter for a while now, and I must say, I think you schooled the both of us today. And about jumping out in front of me, I was already reluctant leading from the start since I knew I would be moving too slow :LOL: Proof being, i think every time you looked over, I was trying to fix a birdnest. I think I broke the record for most birdnests in a single session.

I'm glad that you finally ended up catching that 30" and finally getting into the club. It was simply meant to be :Smile: You don't have to feel bad or apologize for jumping out in front, this padawan would fall for a jedi mind trick! :Wink: I assure you, the next time we fish, and I see that hook pop out of a legal's mouth, and as that butt is flipping his way into the waves, I will do a full on belly flop on top of it to keep it from getting away, since you know... I'm pretty much already wet going with no waders :Smash:

The intel that you provided for me and Peter helped immensely. I think for the first couple of hours we were out there, we were pretty much casting blindly into giant waves with no sense as to where the "hot spot" would be. When I saw Peter walking with another guy in waders in the distance, I had a good feeling it would be the legend himself, Murrieta Angler :Guns: Your presence alone gave us the confidence to keep fishing harder, which would eventually lead to this epic day. I had heard stories about you, but to see the action first hand in person was amazing. Fish after fish, it was a beautiful day. I had some pb's in BSP today, which I was pretty stoked about especially since they came from the LC, so I'm glad you could get that pb butt! I was already convinced that MS anchovy was the best color LC and my personal favorite, and you pretty much confirmed that today! :Thumbs Up:

You know what, I had a similar experience with Arthur once. I ended up going to the next day and had one of my best days at Pea Soup (my fav spot by far) alot of memories and fun times there with the crew.

In all honesty, I was so excited for your two 30" butts, I got caught up trying to land one of my own, and had already forgot about the perch I had landed earlier that day until I got back home and uploaded the pics.
Of course, from now on, I'll be sure to let my buddies I'm fishing with at the time know of the gift blessed to me by Poseidon, whether it be a pb BSP or a monster striper! :Cool:
