It was a beautiful day in Tehachapi with almost no wind for the Brite Lake derby Saturday 4/20. For the nominal entry fee of $7.00 there was many categories of which to win something.
Everything from the smallest fish caught to a total stringer weight for both adults and kids, and any kind of fish caught in the lake could win.
Biggest fish caught for the derby was a 5.6 lb LMB ! I ended up with the 4th biggest fish (no prize money) which was a 3.5 lb rainbow and 3rd place rainbow was a 3.8 lb rainbow which won $100.
There was also 3 tagged fish planted that were caught with cash prizes pending on the number of the tag....winnings of $100, $200, and $300.
There were many 1.5 - 2 lb fish caught early in the morning then the bite died at 10:00. The next couple weeks will be a great time to fish the lake for limits with all the leftover derby fish.
Everyone who attended the past years of derbies at the lake said that the crowd was thinner than the previous years turnout, but all in all it was a nice day to be outdoors.
