AO: Confidential
Tide: 1.5ft to peak low tide
Water: 57 degrees F and lots of kelp stringers but sometimes avoidable
Swells: 2-3 ft. breaking on outside with lots of structure
Wind: Minimal
Arsenal: Lucky Craft ESGII 771HXF paired with Shimano Sedona 2500 (20lb. PP) and LC Flash Minnow 110 in Sexy Smelt Color
I woke up this morning and decided spur of the moment to head back to the same AO where I caught my induction fish. This fishing thing was an addiction and now has become an obsession . With some extra time before I find out if I get a full-time internship, I figured might as well fish. I got to the location around 10AM and walked straight to the big hole I caught the last fish in.
As I walked, I noticed there was some other surf fishermen there. A dad and his two kids. I thought "Hmm, guess I'll have to wait until they are done." At least the dad found the right spot for structure but I didn't see them pull out anything. I fished a trough about 100 yards away from them and kept pulling up kelp stringers here and there. Got one bite there but didn't stick. Seemed like the dad and kids were going to be there awhile so I moved over to a different hole and no bites there.
I walked a good while and got to the jetty and tried to get some halibut there. A dad and his son walked by me and said I was in the right spot for fish and they pulled up 30 feet away from me and threw the kroc. I tried around the jetty for a bit for no bites but the structure there at low tide looked promising. I was about to call it a day but looked over to the surf and tried to see if the dad and his kids were still fishing the hole. I couldn't tell from where I was and decided why not just walk and try it.
I got to the hole I originally wanted to fish and they were gone. Threw a couple of casts and snagged/bumped a lot of kelp but I knew this hole was deep with how the waves were coming over it. BAM! Fish on and this one felt heavy. Put up some good head shakes but didn't pull any drag until I got it into the skinny and took off. I tried to tail him the first time but he went berserk and I let go of the tail. Tried a couple of more times trying to get him onto the sand and finally grabbed him and pushed him up. Took some measurements and pictures and this one was KIA . A surfer and kid kindly took some pictures for me with the fish . The surfer was talking about how him and his buddies saw a large halibut the other day jump pass his head out of the water.

25 In. Halibut!
I tried casting some more, figuring if there is one, there could be another. About 6th cast in I get another big hit and this one was angry :Angry:. Put up some good runs and fun drag burns but wasn't enough. Took me awhile again to get him and tail him and this one ends up being bigger and had a meaty thickness to it. I didn't want to have to take another fish from the ocean as I already had one on deck, so this one got released to tell his buddies. 9th legal for the year and 4th out of the surf! :Big Grin:. Tried casting into the hole a couple of times again and decided to call it a day after a 2 1/2 hour session.

I dropped by the local tackle shop looking for a 3rd grip rod holder to gift for a birthday present but they didn't have any and the company stopped making them. Anybody know where I can find a 3rd grip holder?
Also, trying to get a video editing program so I can post up the video of the structure I was fishing in and the fight!
