So after reading about how great these rods were on all of the previous threads, I decided to go look for myself and ended up buying a 7'6 UL for fishing in the Eastern Sierras. Now I was wondering what some of you have paired this rod with.... I have been looking at the new Daiwa Procyon but the smallest model is the 1500 which I think might be too big for my liking. I am looking to spend around $150. Let me know your thoughts...

The perfect reel for this rod is a Shimano Stradic Ci4 1000 size but it runs $200. The new Shimano Saros FA in 1000 size is a sweet reel too and is in your budget range. I have 2 Ci4s and 1 Saros and love them all, ya can't go wrong with Shimano.

Have to agree with Phishin Phool, I have mine paired with a late model Saros 1000. Great reel, and fits perfectly in your budget. You are going to love that Elixir!

I have a 7'6 Phenix Elixir with a 1000 Saros the newest model. This setup is great rod almost balances out perfect. Caught a 10# cat this weekend at irvine on it. Was a fierce fight !

Ok so it definitely sounds as though the Saros 1000 is the front runner. Does it come with an extra spool? Does anybody have any experience with the Pflueger Supreme or Supreme XT or the Quantum Smoke PT?

Or you could go with a Pfluger Patriarch or one of the new Abu's as well.

You can't go wrong with the Saros 1000. It's just as smooth as the Stradic, only a tad heavier.
