had to do a one day run up the hwy ,i wanted to fish this time so i left at 430 hit town 8 got done working at 12,so it was off to the fishin hole. the storm clouds would come and go all afternoon spitting snow off and on. parked and rolled by the powerplant to see the meat grinder is shut down for work being done on it,so they had the side creek cranking some water down thru it. but as soon as i got past the river section i could see how low the res is, so low theres weed beds popping up everywhere. as soon as i got to thhe spot and got the first rod set up and in the water two bald eagles kept doing swipes at these two cool ducks , the ducks kept close to me because the eagles get close but not that close to people ,i couldnt get a good pic of them. as soon as i got the right depth and right sauce on the bait it was non stop ,i quit taking pics because it was eating up to much time . i lost a couple real big fish in the weed banks trying to get them in , i wqas lucky the reels where loaded with heavy striper flouro ,so i did get to catch a couple nice one that were around 22 inches, i was on a kill mission today for one of my work pals he begged me for some nice trout ,so i killed a limit i normally dont kill the fish up there i like just taking there pics and letting them go. next thing i knew i was out of the working bait and it was time to go. on the way home just south of independence i saw a herd of young elk i tried to get there pics but they spooked everytime i got to close ,i cant wait to go back up,,,,,,,,,,,,,,T/O,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I hit up this exact same spot earlier this week before you T/O on my way to Tahoe for a snowboarding trip, and it was definitely good fishing. Didn't even have a chance to cast the second rod cause as soon as the first rod was was cast, it got bit instantly. You are right once you find the right bait and depth the fishing is WFO, otherwise, you're gona have a tough time. Also when I was in Tahoe managed to fly fish the Truckee river for a few nice wild ones.

Nice fish T.O. looks like you did not keep the brown trout . Those Elk brought back memories of being late to class or missing
classes . I would wake up at times to find Elk every where around my home in Humboldt county and could not get to
my jeep .

Definitely not Roosevelts. All Tule Elk in the Owens valley. Tejon Ranch has American (Rocky Mtn) Elk that were transplanted to the Tehacapi's some time ago. You won't get into Roosies until you get into NW California.

Back on topic... nice fish.

Yeah they sure are the masters of fishing . Every year my Falconry Mentor who is a world known animal trainer at a local zoo takes me on his Eagle days trip.
We go up to Coeur d ’Alene Idaho Eagle Watch at Wolf Lodge to see and study Bald Eagles that migrate there in Nov.-Dec.
from Canada . You can see a multitude of Bald Eagles fishing and finding mates until they start to leave in Jan . Not to mention the great fishing opportunities for us as well !
