Hey guys. Well, today was the day for me to jump on the opener out of Sea Landing, on a 3/4the Stardust. It was a full load of 40 anglers, but still quite a comfortable fit. I got to the landing before dawn, super excited to see what the day, and the seas, had in store. We left the landing at approximately 7, on our way to the northern outskirts of Santa Rosa Island. We couldnt have asked for a more beautiful day. The wind was steady but soft out of the northwest, and the seas were flat. The skipper made a couple of drifts in deeper water (250ft), but the hot action was in the shallower water, between 120 and 150 feet. That allowed me to use 4 and 5 inch swimbaits on 3 ounce heads. I didnt catch any leviathans, but the quality of fish couldnt be denied. Unfortunately, my phone died and I wasnt able to get any pics of the fishing action, but it was a very steady bite for fish averaging 2 to 3 pounds apiece. Very fun fishing on the plastics. We ended the day around 3:00 PM, and made our way back to Sea Landing. I ended up with a nice bag of fillets, and a couple of gilled n gutted reds I gave to my mom tonight for a Lenten Friday dinner, for her, and my aunt and uncle. Turned out to be a great trip today.

I might just head back up to Santa Barbara next week to sample the surf up there, then hop on one of Capt Diamonds 1/2 days on the Stardust. He said these first couple of weeks after the opener should be a blast on those shallow water kelpline trips. Anyway, the boat was great, and the crew was outstanding. They helped all around the deck, and in the galley, where they make their Santa Barbara famous Mega Mouth Burger. NOT for the faint of heart, LITERALLY. Seriously though, they really went out of their way to show us they are on top of things, and that customers are priority #1. My hats off to em!!!

Anyway. Thanks for reading guys!
