Another awesome day at the Kern! I guess you would call this a Kern River Fly Trifecta? LOL Going to keep this short and sweet and let the pictures do the talking. I got my new waterproof camera, so I was excited to try it out!

Caught a few of these guys today

This fish kicked my BUTT, it took me some time to bring it in. Whenever I thought I had the upper hand, the fish just keep running back out! Eventually I won!
It didnt fit in my net!

I wish I had someone close by to have taken a picture of me with the fish, it was huge. I snapped a quick pic, and I released the fish.

The fish put a hell of a fight! Now I want to try for a striped bass on the fly! Not with a 5wt of course! lol Although that would be awesome!

Nice catch! Congrats on the trifecta.

What did you think when you hooked that big Squawfish? When did you realize what it was. I haven't caught one. How do they fight? I heard that they smell. Do they?

I was with Lulu in Yosemite and I was talking about the suckers I saw at the bottom of the river... Lulu asked me why I was cursing the fish. I told her that they actually are called "suckers" and that I was not cursing them.
I was salmon fishing on the Feather low flow with a guide years back and the other client hooked a fish... they were excited that it was a salmon as I filmed the fight. then he pulled out a giant squawfish! I filmed the whole reaction as their delight turned to realization that this fish signaled the skunk for them (I did catch one salmon to keep the stripe off me). this was priceless for a person that appreciated the difference between a salmon and a squaw.
I still laugh thinking about it....

I once caught 12 different species on one trip to Catalina. If I remember, it was sand bass, calico bass, blue perch, barracuda, halibut, wrasse, angel shark, horn shark, garabaldi, bonito, sheepshead and moray eel.

At first I thought a foul hooked a fish, but then I saw her come up and it was actually pretty scary lol. It took me a while to get the fish in the net, which the fish didn't even fit. lol

Wow. Never knew a fish like that existed and I have been fishing the Kern almost my entire life. Where do you find those and are they edible?
