Trap hook or stinger

Can someone take a few minutes for me to explain how one does a trap hook on a plkastic bait. I like the idea and have had a lot of tails bitten off of my plastics while fishing the bays in OC. Is there a long needle needed to thread the wire or mono that runs to the lead head hook?? either PM me or just post it. I like the looks. m Thanks
