I been looking forward to fishing the Islands since it was "closed" to fishing for party boats. Right now the 3/4 boats have been fishing them, but you never know when Mexico may enforce the whole "Visa" thing again.

I jumped on the San Diego out of Seaforth. Noticed some Lingcod being caught, So I wanted to try some of the homemade lures. We took the long trip down and the plan was to drift in 300 feet of water using 16 oz weights. Not my favorite type of fishing, but its so good to be back at the islands. Our first drop I landed a nice Salmon Grouper.

Thats how it went for most of the day. A steady pick of all kinds of Rockfish. Reeling up these fish along with 16oz weights from 300 feet puts a hurt on the mucsles and back. But everyone on board was happy to be out on the water and bringing home some good eating fish.

Overall everyone had limits or close to it. We ended the day fishing shallow and had a nice wide open bite on some Big Whitefish. The crew on the San Diego did a great job helping out with a few ugly tangles, along with tagging, and filleting all the fish. Fishing this deep with all the weight and hooks, your going to get tangled and broken off at times, but everyone kept there cool and had a great time on the water.
