Does anyone have any current news about the Lake Perris dam re-enforcing project? When is the State going to close off the entire east side of the lake to bulldoze and move soil to the back of the dam? This spring or summer?

The Department of Water Resources controls Lake Perris’ water level. The current draw down is because they are doing repairs to the santa ana pipeline (Normal this time of year) water is drawn from lake perris to serve communities. It should have ended and within a month it should be back up.

As you know the water level is 25’ vertical feet due to a possibly vulnerability if an earthquake would occur.

For the last 7 years DWR and other agencies have gone through a long process to repair the dam and bring the water level back up. For the last 3 years the project was held because of the environmental impact review process. Currently the project has moved past that and had received all the permits necessary to start construction. Right now engineers are almost complete with the design of the repair and have tested small areas. The construction contract will go out to bid this summer with construction starting in January 2014. The project will take 2 years to complete.

We anticipate completion of the dam remediation design by the end of 2013, and construction to begin in 2014. Completion of the dam remediation construction is expected at the end of 2015.
Lake Perris is located in northern Riverside County, and is the southernmost State Water Project facility and the southern terminus of the East Branch of the California Aqueduct. The Lake Perris State Recreation Area is one of the State’s most popular recreation destinations, with an average annual attendance of 1.1 million visitors.

Between Perrisrangers post and the state web site its looks like the beginning of 2014. I've been following this a long time and have seen many anticipated start dates going back to 2009.

I predict construction will begin shortly after the trucks come in.
