Start in a harbor first.

Launch anywhere where the surfs ok. Usually swells 1-3 ft are ok for launching. Be careful though surf launching can brake your rods if you flip over it does take some practice. Landing is usually harder. What kind of kayak do you have?

ANd always watch the wind even in the harbor. Windfinder.com is what i use.

Yeah I do it all the time from Newport to Ventura launching and landing can be a bit tricky watch vids on YouTube. Make sure everything has a leash and securely strap everything on including poles. Also have a dry container for cell and keys , a roll over is inevitably going to happen ! Have fun!
