To all you chicken chit that didn't want to go out and fish today because you thought that conditions were going to be tough well you were half right...

I would have stayed home too but it was planned chance that I was able to get out in the water or I would have stay my happy fat *** home.

Wanted to fish yesterday but it was raining.

Wanted to hit this spot for a Long long long time like at least 4 years long.

I had a convention to go to in SD and so my plan was to hit it when I was coming back.

It was windy and cold in the morning so I didn't think I was going to get an a opportunity to fish thinking it was going to rain later.

Left early out of SD and up the 5 freeway.

I love jetty fishing with live bait but when you don't have live bait and no waders you have to use what you've got.

Well parked my car and off I went with my dress shoes, jeans and a hoodie and my WFO fanny pack with my lures inside and a daiwa Luna 253 and a daiwa coastal specialty rod 10'6. It's a slow action but it s a nice rod for the jetty. I'm on a look out for a 12' rod if anyone knows of one.

Saw a guy with a rod and reel and asked him how he did and he said he caught one bass and he had on a lead head fish trap or something similar.

Started to toss the daiwa salt minnow and I felt it wasnt getting deep enough so I tied on a sliding egg sinker and that helped out a bit.

the top one in the picture.

Saw 2 other ISO fisherman on the jetty and chatted With them for a while. They had on a floating life vest tackle vest. In this windy and big wave condition I wish i had worn one too. As I was walking out I was thinking of the man and women that got washed off the Newport jetty several years ago.

I think it's time to invest in a tackle fishing life vest for myself. At least I know if a tsunami comes I'm floating my fat *** out of here with my tackle.

Fished around for about 30 min for nothing and I was thinking nothing's gona bite.

Changed to my shimano halibut lure also with the sliding sinker. And walked out further to try my luck.

http://i967.photobucket.com/albums/ae156/yellowbrickroad_54/Lures/IMG_1192_zps60188ba2.jpg

Note to self......SELF.....DONOT BRING EXPENSIVE LURES ON JETTIES!!!:Angry:

I threw that lure around for about 5 minutes and the dang thing kept nicking the rocks and we all know how sharp those rocks are. Well in short it dinged up scratched up my nice shinny gold lure, did I say gold. GOLD SHIMANO HALIBUT LURE!!! That got me pissed and not happy. Any how was planning to post a picture on how much damaged those rocks did to my lure and I'll explain why I cant in a minute.

Tossed the lure around for a bit and I felt a hit and I didn't know what to do. Luckily I didn't have to do anything. The braid on long parabolic rod is wonderful it does the hook setting for you.

I didn't know what it was. I didn't think a fish was going to hit in this weather

I felt the head shakes but it's been so long long I couldn't figure it out what it was until I saw it in the water.

the sound you hear in the video is NOT me master baiting on the jetty. The sound you hear is me reacting to the halibut pulling the rod down and me reacting and my runny nose in this cold weather. Let see you try videoing with one hand and thumbing the spool with the other.

Forgot what the size limit was at that time, it was either 21 or 22, I couldn't remember. But either way I could invite him for dinner it was about 18-19 inches.

Fished that same spot for a while for nothing.

As I was waking back decided to fish a different spot with the same lure, wish I didn't and wished I left.

I fished there and got hooked up with a smaller model

A lady in a kayak decided to stop by and check me and my long rod out....

I'm sorry i mean a lady in a kayak with her dog wanted to check me out....

No that's not right either...

A lady in a kayak with her dog came and checked out the fish.

Tossed the short back in the water and stated to fish again.

Got several birds nest during the entire session. You know it's gona happen when you say or think watch I'm going to cast this suck far out there and you swing the rod like a baseball bat and next thing you know pop.

Well after several of those birds next I think my line go nicked on the rocks or spool and I lost my gold shimnao halibut lure away in to the dam ocean ....

On top of that I was so upset I tied on my daiwa salt minnow and tossed that sucker for a few minutes and guess what...

Yes it gets stuck on the seaweed and gets snagged and my record today is losing two. That's 2 lures in one day.:Angry:

Moral of the story is DON'T USE BRAID ON THE JETTY...next time I'm bring two reels. One filled with braid and one filled with mono.
Plan to change out the 30lb braid to 50-65braid. I rather cast shorter distance then loose another one of those bad boys.

Wow, the waves seemed big. Gotta be careful on the jetties, its slippery when it gets wet. :Titanic:
Sorry to hear that you lost those two nice lures, but at least you didn't get nothing with it.
Two halibuts a day during this season is pretty good I say. :Applause:
Great report and picures! Thanks for sharing.

Those conditions look rough lol. I am pretty surprise you were able to get your legal in the strike zone. Congrats!
I don't think I would have even attempt to try fishing the jetty during those conditions... but I am a bit curious now.

To consider bringing a life jacket when fishing the jetty is already a good sign to consider a different AO IMO  Be careful out there next time if you decide to challenge the conditions next time. Thanks for the report

Nice report ... minus the "To all you chicken chit that didn't want to go out and fish today because you thought that conditions were going to be tough well you were half right". You are seriously ne tough guy, I hope to be so big and strong like you when I grow up.

Seriously? Not one, but 2 Halibuts? In one day? ON a rainy day? VERY nice!

I have a question as to your report though:
"Forgot what the size limit was at that time, it was either 21 or 22, I couldn't remember. But either way I could invite him for dinner it was about 18-19 inches."

Legal size for halibut is 22inches from tail to closed mouth. Did you mean that either way, you [U]couldn't[U] invite him for dinner? Kind of confused.

Still, any flat fish, let alone 2, calls for an exciting day and report. Great job out there.

Two (2) legals would have been better.

You must be a lawyer.

I like eating them when they are 5 " or less...lol:Neener Neener:
