Arrive to my first stop to see water levels high and flow quick. The recent rains stained the water with a fine silt and made conditions not that great for a surface bite today. I was presenting a caddis #14 in and around the edges of the shore and behind rocks where the flow was slower. No bites no risers were seen. Later i switch to a dark hare's ear but no bites. I think the flow was too fast and I did not have any heavier bead heads to get down closer to the bottom.

I fished my new YAMAME rod and was quite impressed with its feel. I may have found a new go to rod for the streams.

Some sprinkles were felt throughout the day but did not damper my precise fly presentations.

Love the level of water here now. Maybe a few more days and the water will clear up and the surface bite will be on.

Its been more than a year since I saw water coming over the spill way.

Awesome pics! Fishing creeks and rivers is always crappy post rain. But, as anglers who can resist heading out after being stuck inside, right?

Is that bridge by the gold mining camp?

Too bad the fishing was a bust. It's nice that the creek levels are getting a boost though -especially the lower section.

Isn't that place back on the stocking schedule? It looks better and better each time I make the trip up to Mt Lakes.....

I dont see it on any schedule yet. I think its been since 2005 for the last stocking there. But i could be wrong. There was a guy there just hand fishing and caught a nice size trout very silver color. Probably a stocker survivor from years past.

I hope they start stocking these little creeks again. It's frustrating seeing all the empty water...Mill Creek, anyone?

Stocking on Mill Creek was cancelled due to the discovery of MYLF in the drainage. As for LC, it was approved again for this year, after a year with no new fish. An environmental impact study (read as frog hunt) was completed last year, and it was given approval. You should start to see fish planted this spring.

Dude, MILFs in the drainages?

Now THAT'S my type of watershed.

Nice post (and the others from SA, too). I've been back on the streams most weekends since the New Year and had a lot of luck with a #12 grey body, black/tan reverse hackle pattern. I tie on heavier "wet" hooks but use outsized hackle (say a size more appropriate for a #10 or #8), so they either stay on the surface or just start to break surface when wet. A couple dry casts shakes the water off if I want to get more top action, or I can dunk/toss for a deeper retrieve. The fish have definitely been deeper more often than not in my experience so far...

I may try that combo. Thanks for the tip.

I say save the trout! Let these Virginia Frog huggers save frogs in their own state. Not all species need to endure indefinitely .
What ever happened to survival of the fittest ? I would bet more people are interested in catching some trout when visiting the Sequoias then catching a glimpse of the yellow legged freak frog . Does anyone know what was decided by the powers to
be. I noticed the Virginian Frog Huggers ended their campaign and moved on . Were the trout killed or spared ?
I know what my new go to bait is for those tuff days at the local trout hole! hee hee hee
