basic rig i've used ...... heavy rod with 25-30lb test .... squid jig and glow stick on the end of the line .. then a 3-4 oz torpedo weight below that 1-2 ft . glow stick is optional

have they been spotted off the pier ?

Last year when they were off the pier met my nephews in the parking lot at Newport pier.
They walked out to check it out and nobody had any. They showed the night before.
His buddy was tossing a lure about 200 yards N of the pier and landed a squid off the beach.

Any jig stick that casts good will work. If you don't have a squid jig you could use white iron and zip tie a light stick on it. They close the pier and beach at 10:00 pm.

the set up that I saw working was like dockrat stated... weighted squid rig and glow sticks.... green was working good (good for mackeral too, when they out)

I posted that report and am going back either tomorrow Friday or Saturday.

sport chalet has the ahi 6" squid rig for $5.99 and is already weighted with 4oz, glow in dark, beaded, and two rows of hooks.... im getting some today.
