My boat has plugs for navigation lights. I have the one for the front (red/green), but i dont have the stern light. Looking online, i'm not exactly sure what I need to buy.

Can anyone give me advice one which light for the stern for night time running? This would be the type with the 2 prong sockets. The rules state a white light that is 135degrees, but everything i see is 360 degrees.

360 is what ya need.
White stern light must be a minimum of 1 meter or about 36" higher than the bow light for vessels less than 12m in length and must be visible in a 360* arc.

ah, makes sense now that all of them are 360

Rooster is correct. The 135 degree stern light is for use when a 225 degree masthead light is used (totaling 360 degrees).

Try this link, it explains the rules quite well....even has a navigation lights movie to test your knowledge!
