A few years ago, took my two boys pier fishing some where in San Diego. I'm not sure if this is normal or we were simply especially blessed that day but we caught a mess of mackarel that day on Sabiki rigs. My boys really enjoyed it. I know virtually nothing about salt water but we'll be back in San Diego next weekend and would like to take them again. It's been a few years so we don't even remember which pier. We'll be on the northern part of San Diego.

1. Would someone kindly suggest a good pier to visit?
2. What rigs and lb test? Sabiki again?
3. And is this a good time to go or is the likely hood of being skunked high?

Thanks!

I'm in San Diego so I'll give u my .02 cents. I went fishing yesterday for the white stripe with a buddy of mine. Went fishing the rocks around emberkadero pier. Didn't see much action on the pier initially. Did see a few come over the rails eventually, but nothing to write home about. I have seen the macs come through the channel and go on a tear off of this pier, but none of that yesterday. It would be a good start for you though. Probably use sabiki rigs tipped with small pieces of squid is your best bet. Good luck
