View Full Version : Thinking about buying a RIB (zodiac, achilles, etc ) for ocean fishing, any thoughts?

I don't have a huge budget right now, but i am itching to get some sort of sea worthy vessel. Is it foolish to think that something like a 8-10ft RIB with a 8hp would make fish like salmon and tuna accessible? I really want to be able to go buggin' as well. There are plenty of these types of inflatables on CL for under 1500 bucks.

What should i expect with a boat like this. Are these unreasonably dangerous for ocean fishing? Can I launch anywhere?

Thanks in advance...

Phil

Tuna with a 8 hp ???
I don't think so unless you target Bonito.

Lal has a 18' bigger hard bottom boat and does Catalina.
See Rubber Ducky reports on the SW board.

A boat like you described will work for hooping and fishing around the harbor.
Go for it.
Look for a Achilles, Zodiac, Avon.

Look at regular boat too, lots of deals out there.
This CraigsList Portabote is a steal, I would jump on it. Only $560.

I would take a potabote any day over 8' RIB.
Check out youtube videos on portabotes
Spelled potabote but some call them portaboat.

Portabote's Kickass; They fold up for easy storage.

Vince kills it in his 15' aluminum boat.
